guns of Dirty Harry

Few years ago I did shoot a S&W 6½" Model 57 .41 of my late best freind. Smooth recoil and accurate shot after shot.

After I acquired my S&W Model 57 .41 Mag I sold my Model 29 and never looked back...

It wears the 6" standard factory barrel & has been customed tuned by MD Charlton:

Callahan used the following:

S&W Model 29 .44 Magnum 6 1/2 in. bbl (1956 Mdl 29 pictured)
Leather shoulder holster (Original Lawman Leather SH pictured)
3 speedloaders (sorry for only 2 showing...)
Said that he used ``light 44 Special loads``...
So if Harry always carried three speedloaders, why the suspense over whether he fired "six shots or only five"? He would have had plenty of time to reload, given his tendency to walk slowly and carry a big (boom) stick :)

So what is Tyne Daly using in the third Dirty Harry movie "The Enforcer"?

Me thinks it is a 2.5" Colt Diamondback or maybe a Python.

Thanks 8 ball.

"Another version of the Dirty Harry gun story: In the scene where we see Inspector Callahan drawing his oversized revolver for the first time, the gun used was a Smith and Wesson Model 29 in .44 Magnum with an 8 3/8" barrel, but subsequent shooting (both with the cameras and the gun) was conducted using a Smith and Wesson Model 25 in .45 Long Colt with a 6" barrel. The choice of .45LC over .44 Magnum was to use the standard "Four-In-One" blank cartridges, which were widely used in filming cowboy movies, and thus readily available (unlike blanks for a .44 Magnum, which the prop department would have had to fabricate from scratch.) As in the story above, the Model 25 and Model 29 are so similar that it would be impossible to distinguish them at a glance."

This is the story I remember, there were a lot of articles in the gun rags of the day (hard to believe it was that many years ago now). Interviews with the propmaster and such. The scriptwriter was interviewed in one, and claimed DH was supposed to have a 4" gun, but they didn't have one handy. FWIW - dan
