Anybody know what the various provincial agencies use for rifles, shotuns, handguns and ammo?

I seem to remember some were getting AR10's.

Years ago (early 90's) the Ontario Warden's carried HKP7's. Which even back then I questioned as being an odd choice but so cool to a 16 year old gun nut.

In the 1980s I worked at an Alberta Provincial Park. We had to trap a yearling bear off the lawn of the park office. The Ranger One or Two, forget which, had a very ordinary Remington 870 short barrel 12-ga as our backup.

I believe the Ontario CO's that carried the P7 used that firearm in plain clothes. They also used old S+W Model 64s in the .38spl era. Went with various H+K Platforms in 40 when Ontario police converted to semi autos. Now carry Glock 17m like the OPP. I have no idea about their long guns but I heard they just got some patrol carbines.

For years our wardens up here carried Remington 700's in 3006 and 12 gauge Wingmasters.
They were issued sidearms later, S&W 686's in 357 mag.
No idea what they are carrying now however.....

Yeah, they had M10 Smiths; never saw the stainless 64, though. Then they got HK USPs and P2000s.

They did recently get issued a 308 carbine. Not sure on make/model.

The same AR10s that Turdhole banned because he decreed no one needed such a thing to hunt?

The hypocrisy is strong with King Turdhole.

I believe my friend's oldest is carrying some kind of banned AR variant in his truck in Alberta. Only make sense if it was an AR10. I believe he's got a pump 12ga. and a pistol as a side arm as well. 9 or 40? who the heck knows? But I bet ya it's got one of those 30 round fully automatic clip magazines with a laser stun gun for each of em! I think they are propping up the gravel road cops out there now, or more so nowadays?

Has there been actually any 'fire fights' in the bush, ;) as per why do they need 'Semi-auto / Military Grade Carbines? I get, if to dispatch an aggressive / nuisance or injured Bear or large game, a nice 12 gauge pump or bolt action .308 should suffice..No?
Why do they need all that fire power? Has there been history of violent poachers in the bush or something?

*quick Google search, I see one shooting instance 50 years back, & one in 2004. So, 2.

All game law violators are suspected of being armed until proven otherwise. A Fish Cop's approach to an interaction with members of the public has to be a very quick reading of body language, spoken word and at-hand-access to firearms. Themselves being armed with handguns changes the dynamic because it shows that in uniform an officer is not "just a game warden, but law enforcement".

I'd assume they would Piggy Back on things like the Ranger's Tikkas, but that is probably too efficient for Govt.

Back in the days before Alberta fish and wildlife officers were authorized to carry side arms, I ran into the local nazi buying a Ruger Security 6, in a Calgary gun store. He probably had good reason. :)

Grizz

Better to have it and not need it. You know the rest.

Usually going solo in the bush to nab drunks, poachers or trespassers doesn't sound like a good job without one. Just my 2 cents of course...

Rangers are Feds, Wardens/ COs are provincial. Colt will sell you C20s but, for the cost, an agency would be better off with a T3 Battue if they want an iron-sighted Tikka.
