Guns that last

I can make my own black powder and scrounge lead anywhere for projectiles. I think my legally unregistered .50 flinter would still be around. Unless they read this post and decide to regulate that too.
cheers Darryl

The gun has not been with us for a thousand years yet, so to predict what will be functioning a thousand years hence is a little iffy. One safe bet would be the black powder cannon. As far as cartridge rifles go, I would put my money on the .22 rim fire, just out of sheer numbers. Second guesses would include popular military cartridges (it's going to be hard to get rid of the 30-06).

Making gunpowder yourself, is easy, making gunpowder that is effective enough to work in small arms is NOT.
It's also a very dangerous procedure.
Now how about we get back on topic?

I think the SMLE will still be found. Hell, the Muslim terrorists have been making the things with hand tools.
Some of the Mausers, if Bubba doesn't claim them.
The '94 Winchester will live forever.
Some of the big old cartridge guns may also live, by virtue of their easy use of Black stuff.

electromagnetic rail guns and I'm going to build a huge tesla coil and fry things with lightning bolts. :)

Hard to say whats going to last, but I would be betting on bolt action rifles, 300WinMag, 7mmRemMag, 30-06, as the most popular hunting rounds.

In the year 3000, when the ozone is gone and the world is a mass wasteland, somewhere there will be a mint condition winchester model 70 30-06 leaning against something...........................
