gunsmith course

Yep. w ww.armurerie.ca

The only one it seems...approuved by Ministere de l'éducation du Québec.

I started a thread 2 weeks ago asking if anyone on the forum completed the course. I am still waiting for a reply! They only take 15 students a year.

Your best bet is what I'm doing: a formal apprenticeship under a licensed master smith.

A master smith by who's recognition. Apprenticeship? What Trade Board decides when you have qualified? Out of country?

Just wonderin'. In Canada, the only formal qualification required to open up and hang out your shingle, is a business license, AFAIK. Training, knowledge, and skills, are an obvious asset, but not mandated.

Well, except for Ontario, that I know of, who apparently require some form of formal training. Not well defined, just formal training.

Cheers

There are some smiths that I would refer to as being Master Gunsmiths, but there is no trade qualification in Ontario. I have been working on guns for 25 years and can do a lot and have machining and tool and die school and experience and have apprenticed under a couple of smiths but got most of-it from my father; who was as good at-it as I have ever seen short of rifling his own barrel. Who the hell am I then in the eyes of the government then? I talked to a guy who was supposed to be putting together an Ontario syllabus, but I haven't heard anything since.

I had heard this course will no longer be offered.

Search "gunsmith training" and "gunsmithing course" and variations on this forum, this same question comes up about every 2 weeks or so.
