I had been in contact with Mr. Nicholas Makinson regarding the restoration of my 1913 L.C. Smith 12ga. Field Grade side by side. Mr. Makinson has taken ill, and is not accepting major projects of this type. Is there anyone in the country who has the same skill and reputation?
The shotgun is in fair condition at best, and is not something I currently feel safe shooting. There is pitting of the bores, the blacking is largely worn away, the stock was cracked and repaired with a screw (although very tidily) put through it many decades ago, and the right barrel has a small indentation in it.
The action works cleanly, and the center lever is spot on. The safety is sloppy.
This shotgun has been in my family for 106 years, and I want the restoration done very well. I know it will never be more than a very nice shooter, but I want it to last another 106 years, to be handed down to my children.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.
