Gunsmithing required to install new PTG bolt in Rem 700 if installing "Remage" barrel

Thinking of picking up a prefit for one of my Rem 700SAs for which I'd need a new magnum sized bolt (6.5 PRC) and was wondering what fitting would be required to fit a PTG bolt to the receiver seeing as you already adjust the headspace when installing the prefit "Remage" barrel? Any other issues to consider when using a short magnum in a regular short action receiver? I'd like to maintain the function of the receiver as a standard short action as well since I have another barrel for it. Thanks!

Short action as a magnum is different than a short action standard case... the feeding won't work for both...

If an AICS pattern single position feed magazine will retain the cartridges properly, changing the trigger guard/magazine housing would solve feed problems.

Wouldn't you just run different AICS mags for standard short action (.308) and short mag? They both fit in the same bottom metal. In my case it's in a chassis.

We can knock this around for an eternity...

What is the action you wish to use... from what rifle model is it?

For instance is it a standard ADL / BDL action, or a factory Remington detachable magazine action?

If it is anything but the 700 DM action, the bottom of the action will require opening up for the magnum rounds regardless of what ever magazine system you wish to install.

Thanks for that. It's a Rem 700 ADL/BDL originally in .308. I have another one currently being set up as a switch barrel with .223/.308/6mm creed. Thought I'd see about getting this one done as a .308/6.5 mm PRC. If you open up the bottom will it still properly feed .308 out of an AICS?

The ADL/BDL receiver has the feed lips integral with the receiver. The Remington factory DM's feed lips are part of the detachable magazine. These are both alternate left/right double column systems. The AICS feed lips are part of the magazine. Single position feed. IF the magazine mouth fits up through the opening on the bottom of the receiver, the top round in the magazine should feed.

See that's what I thought, AICS is centre feed so I didn't really get why it wouldn't fit. Furthermore all AICS mags, be they .223, .308 or short mag are the same width as they all fit in the same mag well?

As far as I know, all short action AICS pattern magazines fit the same magazine housing. If I had a short magnum cartridge on hand, I would try it in the magazines I use for .260 and .308 - but I do not have such a cartridge.
