Gunsmithing school in Maniwaki, Quebec

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the gunsmithing course offered in Maniwaki?

Is it a decent course? Are the instructors experienced?

Most importantly...is the course conducted only in French? I do speak some French, but I doubt it would be good enough to do a year long technical course if it was entirely in French. However, given that it is being offered at a French Technical College, I would presume it is in French...though...their website is in English which holds out hope that it might be offered in both French and English.

I am very curious as well... I have no choice but to make a major career change.... might as well do something I love and am capable of!

Just looking at all the things the curriculum touches on in the time given, I'd say it seems mostly like an introductory course.

One of the prerequisites is to be fluent in French, basically. So I highly doubt any of it is in English.

its been running for about 30 years lol,, its a good starting point to learn the Basics ,, the head teacher refused to pass on any knowledge that he considerd more advanced. I learnd a lot , but i had to educate the teachers in gun laws and models,, in the past 3 years ther has been a few new kids teaching their and they are more passionate about gunsmithing and are willing to learn.

this one year adventure made me want to start my own gunsmith school.

Did he actually finish and pass the course?

ya ,, but he arrived with more knowledge than anybody on anything antique (and he was 20years old) he was one of the good ones.

The teacher who did courses in Maniwaki was Fritz Matti ,google Matti Arms Blue Sea Lake, PQ
from his site;
Fritz is a topclass gunsmith, hard to find engravers and stock finnishers with his knowlege

Since then he teaches his passion for fine arms, besides working in his shop in Blue Sea Quebec, where he continues to serve his clients with over 30 years of experience under the name Matti Fine Arms.
