Gunsmiths for a light weight build

This doesn't really answer your question, but lots of folks here have ordered stocks from wildcat out of Sherwood park for their lightweight builds with positive feedback. Do you already have an action or rifle or are you looking to purchase a new action for it? If your not committed to a certain action you may want to look at stock options, and then what manufacturers they are made for first.

I am looking to purchase an all new action/rifle. That is good advice I heard lots of stocks can take a very long time to come in. Right now I am thinking a Macmillan hunters edge

McEdges are heavier and of lower quality IMO than Wildcat. Their only benefit is they come in a wider variety and come finished.

Looking for a 280 rem 8 twist 24” bare rifle to weight 6 and 12 oz max.

That is a pretty easy goal , in the lightweight world , It will only depend on what action you choose to work with , Stock, barrel profile etc. #1 Budget.

KS ARMS can probably handle that that in one package . their actions are the same weight as a factory Remington.
Gary Flach out of Langley ,
Bruno 284 as mentioned
Bob @ Custom Gunworx in Rocky Mountain House
Henry Rempel
David Henery

Lots of very Qualified smiths with good reputations in Alberta I just bought a Mauser of all things off of a a CGNer , it has a Parker hale aluminum bottom metal and about a #2 or 3 Profile barrel on it
@ 24" , a wildcat Composites 18.0 oz stalking rifle stock , 1/2 Decelorator pad , studs . I weighed up all the components and I should come in @ 6lbs 8oz if I do my part on the bedding and finishing.
So your goals are very achievable no matter your budget.

Oh another guy to talk to for info on actions to use would be Double Gun , he has built lightweights off many different guns and can give you lots of advice as which actions to use or not use.
Best bang for the buck , 22" barrelled Tikka have Wildcat Put a stock on it and you will be in around 5.9 pounds. There is one on their Facebook page.

One of the carbon six barrels that Jerry@mystic precision sells would be pretty sweet, their price doesn't seem ridiculous either.

I like the idea of a tikka action, you could also order a howa barreled action from prophet river, or one of the more expensive titanium/lightweight actions from the US.

The tikka has decent aftermarket availability, bottom metal/bolt handles/mags etc.
