Gutsy survivor keeps hunting

Survival basics- remember the acronym (make up your own but guess what the military uses for FFSSF!)
First Aid
Fire
Signal
Shelter
Food
Remembering this list helps in times of stress to do the right things first and increase your survival chances.
But always carry a basic survival kit with you.

Well there's an old pilot saying:

"In a crisis, people do NOT 'rise to the occasion', they default to their level of training whatever that may be" :)

In short - you gotta practice like you'll face in the 'real world' because when it hits the fan you'll do whatever you trained to do, and if that was 'nothing' then that's probably what you'll do.

Soooooooooooooooo yer going to run home and e-mail someone? :p:D:D:D

Well i'd email you to come save my ass, but that would involve teaching you to read first in case fred ain't around to do it for you, so it might just be easier to get out myself..:p:p:p

Absolutely right.

Even though it's been MANY years since basic, when I was hunting last Nov & a dough-head aimed his rifle in my direction, I was on the ground, taking cover, before I even realized what was happening. Lucky thing too, as less than a second later, the damn bullets were whizzing overhead.

It's been years... But those damn drills literally DID get drilled in & did prevent a potential spot of pain or worse.

Practice is worth it!

ROFL!!! If people don't grasp that in a pinch you shoot to eat or protect yourself in the bush, they have NO business being out in the bush. Likewise when it comes to shelter. Trees can be replanted. People can't be.

Sounds like you're going to be having a good time come this spring.

As for mantracking... It'd be SERIOUSLY KEWL to see you as the guide on an ep or 2 of Mantracker. (I LOVE that show).

I personally feel that I have read enough Louis L'Amour books to know how to avoid mantracker:p

Quote. real life people wouldnt be trying to avaid you, but as a game its alright (id kick his lilly white butt). Quote

Bone-Collector this is just a clarification of something that you are well aware of and some others might not be.

While this is true most of the time, small children can be a different story. Parents educate their children of the "dangers of strangers" and rightfully so and when confronted with a situation where a stranger is calling their name they can remain hidden and not reply. It must be confusing to a child to be told of the "dangers of strangers" and then, in certain instances, they have to trust a stranger. When searching for children I thing night searches might have an advanatage because the child, reluctant to trust a stranger in daylight hours, might at night, be frightened enough to reply to a stranger. Myself and another searcher, after the search was suspended due to darkness, covered ground already searched and found the missing kids in the wee hours of the morning.

thats a great point walksalot, luckily we have never been on a search for a missing child, its almost worse than someone not being were they said they would be, and not only that but kids can get into spots that an adult cant making it even harder to find them, there have been a fw night searches here with the trackers, like I said before i am a bear guy, when there could be a potential for trouble they call me up, I go on any search i can but that is my main purpose to the team.
This is were folks like yourself are a huge benefit to threads like this one in aiding people to see there are 100s of situations out there that many will never even think of.
