This is just one guy from the reserve around here. I know indians are allowed to hunt full time but 30+ moose this year alone seems a bit much. Many of us have a hard enough time just getting our license for 1 with the draw and all, and this sh*t is going on. I dont know much about Indian politics but is this truely legal ? I cant stop feeling an uncontrollable rage and had to post something.

if you are near your traditional area you can hunt for sustenance but 30 is mind boggling. Is this guy THE hunter for the entire village?

I think sometimes these communities have a person or persons who hunt for the community and the meat is shared. If it is just one guy doing it for the hell of it or because he can, that's shameful.

Yeah really....

That or he's got one big maa-phakkin freezer!

(Assuming all those moose are butchered and frozen accordingly)

another bad moose story unfolding , 8 moose shot and left in the Kamloops area. thats 8 that theyve found anyway.

Jaywill,

Add to that, some asshat a month or so back shot a cow and a calf and left them there to rott. Man, if I ever saw something like that happen, I dont know what I would do!

Going rate $500 per moose, in this area, or so I'm told. If you could get $500 and no limit wouldn't you shoot every one that you could? I have buddies that have told me this and how so-and-so offered to shoot as many as the guy wanted, that's deer, elk, moose, etc...

Yes it is total BS...

One guy who was a regular at a bar I worked at would shoot a couple dozen a year, or more. If you think it was for "sustenance" or any of that meat went to aboriginals...you're on drugs.

He'd shoot one for ANYBODY with a few bucks. He'd tag allong with you if you wanted to shoot one yourself, and take care of it if the warden showed up.

I'm not saying all aboriginals are like that, he defenitely not the only one I know around here. Allowing ANYONE to kill an uncontrolled number of animals is not sustainable. Anybody who wants to kill an unlimited number of game animals, on any sort of "traditional" gounds, should have to do sho with traditional hunting impliments. I wonder how many moose would be harvested if they had to use hand made bows and spears?

Of course the other side of the coin is the people buying the meat...they can go to hell too.

I hope they catch the bastards.

Do you know if they're all the same gender?

I heard story a few years back from a CO in the Sudbury region where they found 5 dead cows left to rot.

The game warden says, these guys will have a bull tag but shoot anything they see, if it doesn't have antlers they just leave it there.

Luckily in this case, they took the mooses, did an investigation and caught the gang who did it. They were from the North Bay area.

WTF is wrong with people?!!

Now, I've heard some stories of native folks shooting a lot and leaving them.
BUT...they're just stories I've heard. I'd like to believe they're not true..

When we see stuff like this, it's hard to think otherwise...

there will always be a loophole or two for those who know how to work the system, get rid of indian status and resavations and see what happens etc

That would be interesting for sure. But knowing how our gov't bends to them, it's unlikely.

I do believe there's a lot of good native peoples. I am intrigued by their culture, and I am compassionate to how the white man installed governance over the country..

But the bad apples in the bunch really really makes it hard for people to be compassionate to their causes.

Well I hope for the sake of all of us hunters, you reported him. That is utter bulls**t right there!
You wanna know what PISSES ME OFF!!!! is how a phucking native can do that, mean while I know guys that have been in the draw for 25 years.. YES THATS RIGHT! 25 YEARS! and still haven't drawn a bull or cow..... unfreakinreal.

There's a cowboy and indian and a muslim sitting at the bar, quietly drinking their drinks.

The Indian looks up and says "At one time my people were many...but now we are few."

The muslim then says "At one time, my people were few...but NOW..we are many!"

A few minutes of silence passes.

The cowboy somberly drinking his whisky tips his hat and says ..

"Well...I recon we ain't played cowboys and jihads yet!"

Not going to happen on all accounts mentioned so far... Even if they do get caught & are of aboriginal status nothing will be done. Not a racist statement (I have a few good friends who hold status cards & think this kind of sh!t is outrageous) but just fact. This has been going on for decades & no serious attempt has been made to stop these kinds of exterminations of wildlife. That's why I get quite a kick out of a fish cop stopping some tourist to check a licence & if he's one over his bag limit of birds or whatever. When in reality he/she not the one harming the environment....
