Guy takes 30+ Moose this year so far WTF

Comman knowledge around here,I was talking with one fellow I know and he told me he had shot nine.This was before hunting season had even started,wonder how many he has shot now,2 1/2 months later.He is not hunting for elders ect.
 
There was a guy convicted of shooting a moose in Dawson City a week or so ago. Shot at night near a residence with witnesses.:D
This was done a week after legally tagging a moose.

He got 45 days in jail.:dancingbanana:

I know who the guy is and have heard this was a common thing for him to do.

He shot it at night and tried using the defence that his wife was a native.(he is white)
 
Years back a buddy of mine's wife passed a car load of natives dragging a moose down a grid road. I wonder how much was left when they got to their destination.

Reporting him would have been futile. A reliable friend of mine saw the guy, drunk, taking potshots at a moose across a clearcut one day, the wardens were nearby and actually came to see who was shooting that time...recognized him and drove away.:puke:

Don't get me started on the moose draw, ever notice how some cats still get a tag almost every year?

The thing I that burns me most is that "environmentalists", and other bleeding hearts, will call us a threat to the species for properly shooting ONE damn moose a year...won't say a word about the aboriginals shooting them by the dozen though.
 
I remember a number of years ago, driving by a group of natives who had shot a cow and calf moose right off Hwy 97 here in BC. [Hwy 97 has a 400 meter each side closure to the discharge of firearms from Immediately North of the Cottonwood river bridge near Quesnel to the Yukon border] I took it upon myself to report the incident to the CO when I got to town [about 20 mins] First question I was asked by the CO "Were they native?" When I replied in the affirmative, his reply was "We will not bother to go out there then." I just about fell off my seat! Stuff like that should not happen. I am not trying to paint all our aboriginals with the same brush, but this is a double standard that will make maintenance of our game stocks impossible if it continues to be practiced. Eagleye.
 
If what you are saying is true and you actually know the guy, #####ing on the internet is taking up time you could spend harassing the CO's, contacting the media, contacting you Mp, contacting your MLA.
 
Yup, sounds like the typical indian. I work with lots of them. Most are ok but there are a few I can't stand. One guy only hunts deer at night from his truck. Well he was caught 2 nights ago outside Caledonia spot lighting for deer. They were off the reserve and someone called the cops. They are hunting an area that is pretty heavly populated with people. They shoot anyway, anywhere, no concern for people or anything for that matter.


I know their guns were taken, but the guy I talked to said they were back out spot lighting the next night.

Agreed, but it's a known thing around here. It's not like I'm the key to the caramilk secret, if anything could/would be done , it would have been done by now. As fars as the media...try kicking up a stink without being played off as a greedy bigot.

In all fairness, I realize my previous posts concentrated on natives, they're just more blatant about it because they can be. You can't swing a dead calf around here without hitting a white guy who's done some poaching and railed on about the aboriginals doing the same.

Even if they want, there hands are tied.

30+ animals that are not accounted for in the provinces game management plan is a real concern. Drunk guys shooting with apparant impunity is a concern as well. Surely the media would be intrested in how the CO's or the RCMP manage this type of behavior. Don't play the native card.

Nothing you do is going to solve this problem but making a few people squirm and a healthy dose of embarassment can't hurt.
 
This is always a tough thing. Like everything else, "there's an A-hole in every crowd".
I've always had a tough time with the aboriginal hunting thing, but at the same time have no problem if it is acutally subsistance hunting. I'd also never report seeing a family I knew was poor taking a doe in july, either though.

I figure it like this: the law is there to provide a solution when an easy answer isn't available through common sense.

Far as the guy shooting all the moose; hope they catch him and he has enemies in jail.
 
We had a MP in our camp one year and when we questioned him on things like this and more, his answer was we took their land. End of question period and this is a true story not bar room talk.
