Im a big fan of the 870, I currently own 2, an 18 inch marine magnum and a serbu super shorty. I found a factory remington police magnum 14.5 sbs for $420 us.... to me that seems cheap for a factory gun is it not? I mean my other two where well over 700 each.

Says used but in very new condition... slight handling marks. Looks decent in pics... but i dont care i like my guns a lil rough sometimes. :)

the price is cheap in my opinion but seeing that you are in the states you will be paying the tax man 200 dollars for your class three licence . the serbu was five dollars tax if i am not mistaken .

the serbu is classed as a.o.w. and is five dollars while a short barrel shotgun with a full stock costs 200. this tax goes back to the 1930 era and was a real roadblock to owning a short barrel shotgun as this amount of money in the depression was a fortune .the short barrel Remington guns are not imported into Canada anymore although i have seen dealers selling 14 inch Remington barrels around the four hundred dollar mark .

I could be mistaken but the $200 only applies if you turn it into an SBS, that is cut the barrel below 18" for a shotgun.

If it left the factory like that then it qualifies as AOW and should only add $5 to the price.

Sounds like a good price our markets are very different, in Canada that would be a steal.

I think its a steal as well... both my previous 870s cost me over 800 each! Well my marine magnum was bought in vancouver at italian arms but my serbu shorty was bought here in ND and it was 800 plus tax. So when I saw this for 400 I said I can find that in my couch cushions! LOL

I guess I will find out whether its a 200 or 5 tax stamp when it comes. I thought when I got the serbu it was 5 because remington offers a sbs from the factory... if it wasn't offered from the factory then it would have been 200? I dunno thats just what I remember.

The fact that it has a buttstock on it reveals it's status as an SBS. (The SBS owner is free to put on whichever stock he would choose.)

An AOW could not have a full-length buttstock.

Your US$195. (the tax stamp cost difference) buys you some freedom.
