Can someone take pity on a poor college student with no time for a real trip and give some ideas of destinations around Vancouver for a day trip? I'm thinking small game, or even just a good place to practice some outdoorsy type skills since I've been out of practice so long.

If you don't want to give away your prized secret spot, a general area is okay too.

take a drive up to squamish.... lots of backroads, any buck deer season is open till dec 10, there might be the odd grouse or bunny around.... I think black bear is open... but they will be fishy. Be wary around the rivers, salmon are around and i've seen a few bears in the low lands..... they run though ... usually ;) Up the hurly pass beyond pemberton is a good bet for deer and birds. Chilliwack is pretty busy.... as far as hunting for much.... you "might" get lucky.... but the only success I've had there has been way up and far from roads. The blacktail rut has begun a week and a bit ago, watch the clear cuts, early morn and at sundown..... and any does you see... watch for bucks. good luck ;)

I've still got a doe tag for 3-30...... clinton.... good till nov 30th.... got the time off to go for a couple days... but sadly my truck is hurtin from last trip :D

Hmm. Lots of good suggestions. I've never been on a successful hunt before though, so I'd like to stick to small game. Actually I've got a bit of a hankering for bunnies.

I've got some veggie friends who want to do some outdoors stuff too, it'll be easier to arrange a trip with them and not hunt too. Anyone know any closer spots, even if they're in a no-shoot zone?

Golden ears park/alouette lake rec area in maple ridge easy to find, great place to spend the day, lot's of great hiking trails.... you may find places to set camp.... ect. no shooting i think
