Hey I recently picked up a single shot H&R in 243 on here. I took it out for the first time and the action came open everytime I fired. I assumed it was a "needs a good cleaning" so I did that last night. I did find a little bit of junk under the piece that locks the barrel but nothing significant. I have not been out to try it since, but I did notice that the barrel release (beside the hammer) pushes significantly harder then my H&R single 12 gauge. Everything is functioning properly, just seems to push hard. Anyone ever run into this before?

Is the barrel original to that action or has it been poorly fitted as a swap?
Sounds like the barrel lock is not engaging far enough.

As indicated above that may or may not be the original factory barrel that came with that receiver. When you have it broke open check under the barrel on the side below the chamber and see if the last 3 digits of the receiver S/N# are etched on it as they usually did that at the factory.
When it is closed it should lock up firmly and there should be no light visible between the barrel and receiver when viewed from the side.

these suffered this common ailment and |I had two that did it every shot...the answer is a strong spring...
