AFAIK HK does not follow the KeyMod standard (as per Eric Kincel's TDP) ... it's a proprietary design that's only compatible with HK's own accessories.

That is true, like the UMP45 and USC45 being able to use the same lower (with a block and tigger parts swapped) the SL8 could use the G36 grip housings.


Although in the case of the SL8 having such a drastically different rear receiver - and the lack of aftermarket fire control parts - the SL8's ability to use the G36 grip housing is drastically overshadowed by the HK243's external similarity!
 
The HK243/293 had to had a different lower and barrelmounting system as a demand from the German government in order to make a civilian version of the G36. They wanted it to be impossible to convert it to full auto.
 
Just got a call from the dealer, the gun arrived.
(Too bad paperwork will take 6 weeks)

Going there next saturday to take a look. If you guys want specific pictures, I'll see what I can do.

Incredible me, do you have an SL8 or real G36 you could compare to? Im mostly interested if the barrels/barrel nuts are the same. I have a few G36 barrels laying around that I was hoping to throw on. Also, I saw a AR15 style magwell, want to make sure I can install a G36 magwell. From the pictures it looks to be the case, but if you have the parts, confirmation would be great!

The SAR is such a nice rifle, handles well, feels really good in your hands. Can't wait for the papers to come in and I can take it home.

Oh yeah some extra info:
the barrel is attached with some sort of round nut with 4 cuts in it (at 90, 180, 270 and 360 positions)
The thread on the barrel is 15x1 (very wierd thread)

I am pretty sure the G36 barrels don't mount on the HK243, uses a different trunnion IIRC.

It comes with the G36 magwell, the AR15 mag well adapter is an add on option.
