HK, In a world of Civlians, some don't!
 
Very true. They are starting to Pi$$ me off. Other companies will sell military style rifles to Civilians, but we get the bastardized SL-8, and USC. Nice models, but makes no sense to me not to take advantage of the very lucrative Civilian market. :idea: The US based factory should be taking advantage of this. (banging my head off the computer screen.) :(
 
From the company that was saying 416 uppers they made were "stolen" because their dealers sold to non-LE... the same thing Colt and others sell for 2/3's the price...

I'll take a stab and say "no", for liability reasons... :roll: :lol:
 
Currently the HK417 (above) and HK416 (5.56mm - previously called the M4C and other vairant - until Colt lawsuit) are available to Federal Mil and LE units only.

Hk is apparently going to allow State and Local LE purchase at a future date. Hk has no plans to make these available to civilians (they cite German law - but I think they just do not care about civlian sales anymore)
 
As an aside to this topic, Has anyone heard if the FN SCAR-H will be made available to the public?....Or the SCAR-L for that matter.
They seem to be a bit more Civvy-Friendly than HK.
 
with a 18.5 barrel and luck this should be NON-restricted, no? doesn't look like any AR parts would interchange except maybe the grip stock possible internals. sorta like the way the 180b is non but the AR is restricted.
 
there is no way that would ever not be considered some sort of AR variant. just looking at it will make them think so.
 
I don't know - it looks like the magwell is part of the 'upper', and the trigger pack is just that, like other HK's. Not close enough to count as an AR variant. Too bad it's a moot point given HK's inability to say 'yes' to civilians.
 
No worries -- Hk has a leg up in some ways for the Joint Modular Weapons Platform (what the XM-8 project turned into kinda sorta) as well the Hk416 and 417 are entering service with USSOCOM

The Hk416 upper is a drop on for inservice M16FOW lowers. The Hk417 is based on the same operating system. The lower is basically a SR-25/AR10 lower with some chnages to fit the G3 mag (albiet a redesigned G3 mag with a cut in the side for a push button mag release and a improved follower for a bolt hold open).

IF Hk gets the nod their plant in Columbus Georgia will be producing these -- then it is anyones guess as to civilian sales (I would bet yes)

As far as the FN SCAR-L and H go -- FN has promised that once the design is standardised they will sell semi versions to the public.


Either way I would guess we are 3-4 years away from either being civy.

Secondly If I had to guess I woudl give the Hk and FN systems the biggest leg up on the next CF weapon system (10+ years away)
