H&k 91

No they aren't unless you are one of the few with the specific 12(x) license, this question get asked at least bi weekly. Please try to use the search function and set the setting to more than 1 week cause that is the default setting.

thanks for your reply.

as for the search feature it has much to be desired. I had tried about 8 or 10 different search parameters and it returned no results. had it set for 36mo.

having 11 pre-ban H&K's down here in the states I was looking to see if I had any brother H&K owners in Canada. they were ban for import here in the states in 89', I bought mine in the mid 80's.

there are a few guys around with hk rifles but no one up here is allowed to shoot them or leave their house with them for that matter....

Some pics of those 11 rifles would be appreciated (i'm an hk "guy" but can really only get their pistols and their newer "civilian market" stuff like sl8, usc and 416 which i am not too fond of or a very expensive (416))

People who have owned firearms of that class continuously since their re-classification may be grandfathered for possession of grandfathered prohibited firearms from the particular prohibited category. A grandfathered prohibited firearm must have been in Canada at the time of the re-classification (from restricted to prohibited), and the firearm must have been registered as restricted at the time of the re-classification. AFAIK, unlike with a grandfathered prohibited handgun, DFAIT will not issue a permit to temporarily export and then re-import a prohibited rifle, so - for all intents and purposes - the firearm must have been in Canada continuously ever since the re-classification and the grandfathering. Both the individual and each particular prohibited firearm must be grandfathered, and both individual and prohibited firearm may lose it's grandfathered (legal) status. If the grandfathered person ever lets his firearms license expire, the grandfathered status expires permanently; that person's grandfathered status, once lost, cannot be regained.

But even those who are grandfathered for (that particular category) and who own a grandfathered HK91 cannot take it out of their home without an Authorization issued by the provincial CFO. A firearm in this category cannot be loaded or fired (legally) except at a range approved by DND as suitable for the discharge of fully-automatic firearms.

For all intents and purposes, due to Firearms Act regulations, bureaucratic interpretation of these regulations, and modern DND base and range-access restrictions, even the grandfathered owner is not permitted to fire his grandfathered HK91, not even at a CFO-approved range. He may, after applying for and obtaining an Authorization from his CFO, take it to a gun show, etc.

Ownership of older HK firearms such as the HK-91, MP-5, etc...are prohibited. Only grandfathered owners are permitted to retain them in working condition. This was a result of the anti-gun Liberal government in place at the time. Later they increased restrictions, denying owners the right to take them to their gun clubs to shoot, turning them into permanent safe queens.

However, most newer HK designs are available to own/use such as the HK G-36/G-36C, MP7, USC, UMP. The more esoteric models, such as the G-36, however are only available in extremely limited numbers and command premium prices on the used market as HK is not permitted civilian sales of "military" hardware. Their versions of AR-15s are also available for purchase at inflated prices compared to Colt, LMT, Noveske, etc...

thanks for all the great info guys and sorry to hear of the restrictions, at least here in the states they still let me shoot them.

what kind of price does something like a G-36 command?

in 1986 you could buy a 91 for $425, in 89' they were ban for import and jumped to $1000. in 94' the assault weapon ban went into effect and they skyrocketed to $5000. now that the assault weapon ban has sunsetted in 04' and a number of US made clones have come about prices have dropped and settled between $3000 and $4000.

how about HK sporting rifles, (not to stray too far off thread) I picked up 4 of them back in the 80's also a 940, SL6, 300 and a 270. I've been hunting a SL7 (.308) longer then I care to mention.

some great HK info here. not to mention a good place to grab pics one doesn't have handy.
