Hi,

Does anyone have any experience with the H&K SL8? I know it comes in .233 rem, is it available in .308? How accurate is it and how reliable is it?

Thanks!

I guy i work with has one and loves it. A gun dealer told me once the bolt does not have lugs that have to twist to lock but instead uses some sort of roller cam set up which is supposed to reduce moving parts and increase reliability. I would wait for someone to reply and confirm this though as i am only going on a gun dealers statement and u know how some are when they want to make a sale. I also do not think that they damage brass as the swiss arms does. If i were to buy one i would look for a g-36 stock conversion kit.

The SL8 is not like the earlier SL7 and SL6's that had the ball detent action, it has a more typical rotating bolt... my experience with the SL8 is not good. I would REALLY like a SL6 or 7 though, really nice stuff.

The HK 630 and 770 are the hunting versions of the SL6 and SL7 respectively but are the same action. If you can find one of these I would get one, they are excellent.

I think I'm going to go with the Ruger Mini 14 target with the laminate stock. You can tweak it with the barrel harmonizer, plus it can be customized. Does anyone have experience with this rifle? The H&K SL8 is twice the price and seems to be limited as far as being customized.

if i recall corectly there was a prototype made in 308 but called the SL9, ment for snipers. never went in to prodution to many problems.

Anybody ever tried to take the 770 and fit it to a tactical stock? That would be very sweet indeed....or illegal?

I have owned an SL8-4 for the last 3 years and it is my favourite coyote rifle.3/4 groups off the bags with Federal 55gr soft point.Out of about 1500 rounds down the pipe only 2 have failed to feed (reloads). You do pay more for HK products but you get what you pay for. I accessorized it with an AR magwell adapter, bipod and HERA stock conversion.

Did you find the stock the H&K SL8 came with to have bad ergonomics? Is that why you changed stocks? Do you find the scope sits to high on the picatinny rail?

I changed stocks about 3 months ago. I wanted to try it out with a pistol grip rather than a thumbhole stock ( which I am not a big fan of). I find it is a better fit and feel with the HERA conversion. The origional is good, but this is better ergonomically. As far as the scope sitting high, it is a non-issue as far as I am concerned. I run a Burris Short Mag 3-9x scope and everything "comes together" very nicely. I seriously enjoy hunting coyotes and this rifle just makes it all the better.
