H&k usp 40 s&w

If you haven't had the opportunity of trying one out, I would strongly suggest shooting one before actually making a purchase. They are quite expensive pistols, and for me to tell you that they are great and that you should go out right away to buy one, would be completely biased...you shouldn't solely rely on that for making a purchase. For me, the gun fits well, and just feels natural while shooting it. In my opinion, it is also one of the most accurate pistols that I've ever fired, right out of the box. I like everything about it, including the ambidextrous mag release, which alot of other people will tell you that they hate.

All-in-all, before committing to purchasing a new USP, see if one of your buddies, or a fellow member at your range has one, and will let you try it out. You never know...even though many have positive things to say about the USP, it may not be excatly what you are looking for.

Just my 2 cents...

Just got it, haven't yet shot it, waiting for my ammo order to come in.

I found the grip a bit blocky. You might want to consider the HK P2000 as well. It has a lot better ergonomics.

I just traded my usp.45 in for a glock. The usp is a great pistol and I definitely recommend getting one however there is one problem I had with my pistol. The mag release is a problem although I had an extended one I still needed to rearrange my grip to release the magazine. I have large hands also.

It's a great pistol, just handle one before you buy.

If you can't get the magazine release with the thumb there's another release on the other side. The grip is blocky, thicker and wider than the sig. It still feels comfortable to me. I'll find out when I shoot it.

I've literally NEVER heard of anyone ever trading a USP (let alone in the .45 caliber) for a Glock  :sok2

That being said, i own a USP .45 and a G17 gen 4.

The USP .45 is a fantastic pistol. Soft shooting, stupid accurate and is built to last 101 lifetimes.

Now personally, I'm never a fan of .40 cal in polymer framed handguns. Most people i talk to aren't either. That being said, an acquaintance of mine DID shoot a USP in .40, and he said that is probably the ONLY time he would ever shoot a .40, is if it is out of a USP.

Take it for what its worth, though i was impressed because this guy is adamant against .40 cal in general.

I personally love the .45 that i own. Its a beast of a gun. Only ever had 1 FTF, and that was with WWB. I found that the case of the shell was crimped ever so slightly.

Just a word to the wise, the .40 cal and 9mm versions are slightly smaller and have a smaller grip circumference than the .45 version.

While the USP was originally designed in .40 cal, the .45 is not simply a conversion, its a redesign. H&K designed the .45 version alongside with the MK23. So you know the USP .45 is built to last.

Get a USP, it really doesn't matter what kind, you won't be disappointed. However, the way i see it is this: Why waste the recoil reduction system on a small caliber like 9mm? Get the .45, and i promise you won't be disappointed.

The USP was designed around (specifically for) the 40 S&W, unlike most other pistols that are designed for 9mm and converted. I wanted 40 and not 45 as I'm not reloading and the 40 is still reasonably priced. If you have med or large hands, the USP will not be a problem.

Thanks guy, But is there a big Price difference on the 40. and 45?

And also do you guys recomment trying to get a used one for a good deal, lets say $600 for the gun and 2 mags?

Price wise, between the 9, 40, and 45, they are usually the same...new, that is. If you can pick one up for $600 with two mags, that's an absolute no brainer! Smokin' deal on a USP for $600...even if it turns out that you do not like it, you'll get that money back in a heart-beat...

Good luck finding a used USP for $600. I got mine new for $970 with free shipping, so they are not that outrageously priced. Our dollar is climbing, should be some deals out there.

... from a supporting dealer on this forum, he ordered it in from a supplier, took 2 weeks until it was in my hands. I bought two guns, so I think I got a great deal on a new HK USP, 40cal, for $970+tax.

I own a USP in .40 and I like it. It's got the reliability of my Glock and my USP is the most accurate pistol I have ever fired. The only factors I don't like about it are the bulkyness of the overall size and that if something ever does break it's not as simple as the Glock to replace parts myself. I shoot it in single action all the time using the safety. The factory double action trigger pull is atrocious.
