H&K USP 9mm V1 or Sig 227 9mm?

Sorry for the unresearched comment, but isn't HK in serious financial difficulties?

I'm very new to shooting myself, did have the opportunity to shoot a 226 navy, smooth trigger and minimal recoil(on 9mm). Also shot a usp, same ammo, not so smooth trigger, kicked like a mule. Could be I wasn't gripping it well but it was the first time I shot a polymer and I was surprised the amount of snap it had.

Again I'm a newb so what do I know, best advice would be try em before you buy em.

Good luck,

RM

Just do what I did.

Buy one (your first of many most likely).......................I started with a German made P226........................then buy another........................next I bought a G17..................then buy another...................I bought a USP Custom Sport!!!!!

Then another, and another....................................!

Seriously, OP, if you are able to, see if you can get to try shooting a P226 and a HK USP before you decide which one to purchase. Once you get a chance to hold and shoot some rounds out of each, you may find that it becomes much easier to select which pistol you prefer.

Both guns are excellent guns. With proper care and quality ammo, the "average" shooter can own and shoot either of these guns for many years before parts wear or fail.

Hk has no financial problems, and if they ever do, someone will buy them out like it happened to many US gun makers.

The internet rumour is that the a couple guys running the company decided that it was a good idea to spend a couple billions on a yacht, private jet, and other fun things!
that is all...

Buying my first pistol but need help deciding which one i should get. Are either one of these easier to use and maintain? Any input you ladies or gents have would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Oops I meant P226 not P227. Sorry!

Sig fans should chime in if I am incorrect, but unless sig has fixed its recent qc woes then I wouldn't recommend a new sig, again I haven't stayed on top of this so by all means if you know some new development in sigs improved qc fill us in.

I have a P30L and a USP9 both v1 although the usp will get a lem conversion shortly.
The sig has a very big bulky grip that I dislike but the few times I have shot it I have shot it with acceptable degree of accuracy.
Also I don't know what sigs warranty is like but HK offers lifetime warranty
Sigs have the older style barrels, all HKs have the superior chrome line polygonal barrels.
And usps are variant customizable so like me if you got a v1 but want to convert it to a lem trigger(v8), you can do so without voiding warranty, so the HK usp is fully modular, you can switch from variant to variant(not caliber change though, then HK will ditch you)
The polymer frame does not corrode, and as mentioned is lighter, so if you shoot high volume those few ounces make a world of difference.

If you were to offer me one I would take the usp v1. If you live in calgary area I can bring mine out, and you can try it out.

The quality issues that Sig has experienced is almost entirely limited to US production. My 220 was in fact German built.
Kind of reminds me of the Smith & Wesson PPK's. They couldn't compare to the German production. That being said, issues with
Sig's are really rare.

HK is under financial constraints:

Considering how many Government and LE contracts they get, this is ridiculous.

I would like to thank everyone for their opinions on this.

I had a chance to shoot both of these yesterday afternoon. I found that both actually felt really good from an ergonomic standpoint. I shot a total of 20 rounds from each, I really didn't notice any appreciable difference between the two. From what I read and watched on the internet basic maintenance isn't going to be that hard on either model. So that being said i went with what i found visually appealing.......The H&K USP. Sorry Sig fans but if its any consolation I was considering getting both.

Thanks Again,

sorry but 20 rounds is not even warming up. It is hard to tell with such low amount of rounds whether they fit your hand properly or not. there is not way that a SIG compares to an HK in ergonomics, hence, they will feel different, but only over time. IF you are planning to shoot from a bench, 100 rounds a weekend or less, just buy any gun it really does not matter, you will never feel the difference. Now, if you are planning to compete, you will be shooting around 200 rounds per practice + your matches, then the way the gun fits you not only will make you a better shot, it will big give you more confidence and it will reduces your times, etc etc etc, of course you gotta do your part.

Long story short. The HK is better. lol.
Now, the Sig is not hard to maintain but is less forgivable. Those metal rails are better nice, clean and very wet with quality lubricant if you do not want any premature wear on your Sig. Otherwise they are pretty simple guns.
Hk requires minimun oil, you can go over a few thousands with any cleaning whatsoever.

Anyway...

Enjoy your HK.

You've only postponed the inevitable, you've got the sig-ness and now there's going to be a whole lot of second guessing yourself. Might as well just go on and buy that sig now, why wait? You know you want it.

P.S. aesthetically speaking 226 stainless, that's one pretty gun.

Best of luck,

RM

Solid selection, where did you buy yours from?

"Looks" does have something to do with a personal gun purchase in my opinion. Especially considering how close the performance is between modern guns.
