H&K USP vs SIG 226

Both are excellent pistols.

I debated back and forth on exactly these two and ended up buying the HK USP Custom Sport. In the end it came down to comfort and personal preference. The HK fit my hand better, as well as my wife's. She's right handed, I'm left, so the ambi mag release was also a factor for us.

The prices are pretty close on both, especially if you shop around. Both can be found used or refurbished, and are still neck and neck in price.

Despite purchasing the USP, I'm still a fan of the Sig, though I preferred the P229 I shot in Ohio over the P226.

I think that like TheCanuck said, it ultimately comes down to personal preference.

Buds I tried both and found the SIG to be too small for someone with big hands. If you do the conversion on the HK to the LEM, you don't have to worry about a safety, a big plus for a lefty like you and I. Thats what I did and I love it. The LEM takes some getting use to but all you do is rack the slide and re-holster and when you ready draw,nothing to worry about, the DA pull on the LEM is about 5.5 lbs and the mod pre-loads the hammer 90%, so no huge take up like on the Mark 23.

I found the controls on the SIG difficult to operate for a lefty, thats not to say with some practice you couldn't become proficient. Anyway just my opinion.

A variant 3 or 4 (3 for lefty, 4 for righty) would free up area on the sides for your thumbs. With a match trigger and lots of dryfire you would have a good combination. I had a USP with LEM. Very simple to use, and great first shot capabilities. The only thing I would recommend is that if you use the LEM or a DAK system for Sig, try to just use those systems. Trigger movement has to be learned a bit more in that the system reset is dependent on how far the user allows the trigger to travel out after the shot. Similiar to a PARA LDA.

I couldn't agree more MO. You're about the differents variants. I have the control lever to change to a variant 2 if I wish. I shot a LEM at HK and after getting the trigger reset mastered its sweet. I like the idea of no levers on the pistol, just a mag release, and very easy to switch to you're weak hand if need be. After all its what works for you.
