H&K USP vs SIG 226

"My only concern would be with the quality of recent American-made Sigs (and by recent I mean very recent – made in the last year or two). If sigforum is to be believed, Sigarms' quality is slipping. " capp325

Not to side step the thread, but I believe this to carry some relevance.
Has anyone else heard or experienced anything relateing to this comment?

no...my P226 was made in Nov '06 (doesn't get any newer than that ) and the quality is awsome... the gun is almost as nice as my Beretta :p

I am having this same issues trying to decide for my first handgun (9MM)

I shot the 226 and I liked it, but the trigger felt strange (maybe because I was shooting a 1911 9MM just before?) like a long pull that I did not know when it was going to break. I am sure I will get used to it and start loving it with some more practice. I like the look of the USP over a 226R but the 226R is very close behind. Wolverine has the USP 9MM for 999, and the CustomSport for 1,185. They also have the Blued 226R with Night Sights for 1,096 which is a very attractive price.

I am very torn between these two. If I can get my ATT fast tracked I might have to pick one up in the next few days. I have not shot the USP so I am hoping to find someone with one in 9MM.

Maybe I should get out a coin :D

I did that when I was first deciding on buying a shotgun or a rifle. I got a quarter and wrote a big S on the side in marker and flipped it, first 4/5 were on the S last one was on the rifle.

I have both now.

I hear more and more of the recent SIG quality slippage. It is a concern for sure.

I will make an effort to go to another store to check them out this weekend.

Both are superb pistols. I would go with the SIG because I shoot them better. My suggestion is to shoot both and see which one like's you better. Then buy the other one in 6 months.
Regards,

I have both, I find the SIG fits my hand a little better and feels a little better in the hand. I prefer the HK for ergonomics and primarily the amibidextrous mag release which I find far faster than the SIG.

I find the HK is a little easier to shoot and recoil is a little less than the SIG as well. Accuracy is the same for both my pistols.

On take down - I agree with Maurice above, yes there is the extra step of pushing out the slide release lever but otherwise take down is the same, I have never had a problem taking the HK down.

On price, the pistols will likley be close. HK mags are generally a fair bit cheaper than SIG, MecGar produces OEM SIG mags that work great, better than the SIG mags in my opinion. I dont know of anyone off hand that produces OEM HK mags.

Re warranty - cant help you there, I can say I have better than 6,000 rounds through my HK with no problems or stoppages. No probelm with the SIG either but not nearly as many rounds.

I have a SIG refurb and mine was new in the box, apparently it sat in some deparment armory and had never been fired. The refurbs are good, most departments that issued them likely only had annual qualifications so they were not run hard.

At the end of the day handle and shoot both to see which one feels better to you and you shoot better with. Both are great pistols with great features, it comes down to personal preference.

I went to TargetSports today and felt the both of them again today. After alot of decisions I ended up buying a SIG Factory Certified for 930 no taxes. Came with 2 mags, all paperwork and the plastic case. Can't wait to go and shoot it today. This gun looks almost brand new and I think it was a steal. After handling the USP again I just decide on a steel framed gun. :D

I picked up 50 rounds of Win 115GR FMJ, 100 of 124GR FMJ and 50 of 147GR TCMC today. I am going to bring it out to the range as soon as I can get it home and see what it shoots best, then buy 500 or 1000 rounds to work it in.

These threads are so funny. None of these pistols is any better than the other. They are both amazing. Pick the one you prefer. I shot a USP40 and loved it. It fits me well. And that's all that matters. Pick up both, shoto em. If your apreciation of both pistols is equal, pick the one you think looks the best or that you feel you want the most. That's it, that's all.

Sorry to disappoint but your Sig does not have a steel frame (it's aluminum). A good gun otherwise, though.

....except ST, SS, Sport, the new Elites.......which are stainless steel framed.

Whatever, its a term I and many others use to describe a poly frame such as Glocks, H&Ks, XD's ect against "the others."

Well, obviously you and "others" have no idea what you're talking about because aluminum and steel are totally different materials with different wear characteristics.

C'mon now, the guy just got the gun. Lets not alienate him just as he's getting started. Sheesh. How about politely correcting him, rather than just calling him a moron to his face?

(I'm aware you didn't call him a moron, but you might as well have)

I tried doing that. His response was "whatever". Anyways, sorry for the hijack.
