H&R 22 Hornet?

I have been thinking of getting a 22 Hornet for some time. Don't really want to break the bank and have many other calibers, so this is just a want on my part.

Anyone have a Hornet in H&R? What are your thoughts and how accurate is it? I can get one (new) locally for $330 (hardwood, varmint). Looking for something to play with (but would like a shooter) and use on gophers.

I'm not up on prices but seems a bit high. I thought they were like $270. for a SB2 with a fairly heavy barrel. Also I think a .223 would be better just because ammo would be cheaper and reloading would be easier than 22 Hornet.
 
Already have 223 x2, 17 FB x2, 22-250 and 204 as well as numerous rimfires. Looking for something in a Hornet cause I don't have one. Thanks.
 
I'm a fan of H&R's, and have had one in .22Hornet. It was an accurate shooter with a very nice trigger, right out of the box. The new ones are, I believe, equipped only with extractors, unlike the ejectors of the older ones. One problem with these guns (I have a bunch in other chamberings) is that some guys don't like fiddling with the break action...it's a bit awkward shooting on the bench. I don't mind it, but some friends hate using this type of action. The other potential PITA is mounting a scope; a lot of scopes wind up needing to be mounted in a position such that the eyepiece bell sits right over the hammer, which necessitates the use of an extension to allow easier manipulation of the hammer and usually a higher set of rings than you might like. Longer eye relief scopes help out with this.

In general, I like these guns. They are a great value for the money...if you don't like the gun or the cartridge, you aren't out of pocket for a lot of cash even if you take a loss on selling one.
 
22 hornets

CZ and browning make nice 22 hornets. I would try for a good used one. If kept right those barrels will last a long time.
