h&r 500 s&w

In the shop we stock both the TC Encore in .500 S&W as well as the H&R in .500, I think they bring a little bit more then the std. cals.

Cool. How many is Epps ordering? What is the price?

Epps still has a half dozen in stock. Around $350.

Mine arrived yesterday. It's a cute little gun. I removed the cheap (but very effective-looking) plastic sights and mounted a 1.5-4.5 B&L Scope Chief on it. I really need to find an offset hammer spur now. I also loaded up 40 or so rounds, range report to follow.

Well, from the reports from guys in the states, I can expect 1900-2000 fps from a 440 grainer. Given that this is such a light gun (somewhere around 6lbs), it should boot much harder than a stoutly loaded (but heavier) 45-70 guide gun.

I was reading some post on GBO (Graybeard outdoors) about guys in the states who have been shooting the Handi in 500 S&W for some time. Seems the recoil knocks the damn thing loose to a certain degree, cant remember what part.

let us know how that works out.

I have an H&R 45-70, and yes, the hinge does loosen up some after extended use. That's a good thing, though, because from the factory the hinge is a bit too tight; it takes a fair amount of pressure to open the action.

Seconded, my Buff Classic is the same way, but it wore in quick enough.

I wonder if there are any bolt actions the .500 SW would feed well in...Would be pretty cool to have a repeater with a 20" barrel and some XS or a Williams aperture sight :dancingbanana: I like my single shots, but man that would be a moose rifle!

Wild West Guns in Alaska used to offer a lever in .500 S&W. It was available as a standard guide gun or in a take down model.

I've seen pic's and adverts reguarding them and I'd love to eventually get one but efforts to contact them direct or through their designated Canadian rep haven't been very successful. It would be a nice companion rifle for the big Smith.
