Hi, I have a friend who has a beautiful original H&R M14 with fibreglass stock he is wantiung to sell. Unfortunately it is his last 12-3 CA and does not want to lose the classification on his PAL. I told him he should be able to buy a 12-3 frame from somewhere hopefully cheap before selling the M14, and he should be able to retain the 12-3 class. After 90 minutes on hold with the CFC I am unable to get a response. Any thoughts? Thanks all,
Joe:)

i think you have interpeted that correctly- as long as you have at least ONE 12( whatever) you are still grandfathered for that class- and it is the receiver that is grand fathered- however getting one cheap might be another story- me i'm looking for a winchester at the right price to complete the set- trw, h&r and springfield

He can still sell the M 14 to someone they can have it sent to a gunsmith and have all the parts removed from the reciever and return the receiver to your freind so he keeps his 12.3. A few people have done that over the years. It is a shame to do it to the rifle but at least the parts get to go out and do what they where meant to do.

or he can purchase this reciever and sell the whole rifle. http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=277469

Fire is right.... I've done several receiver swaps and the owners still got to keep the 12.X status and receiver. Then with all the USGI parts on a Norinoc receiver, they can still enjoy all the .308 fun. :D

I'll buy it and return his reciever to him intact...... retaining his 12(3) and all he needs is an ATT to have it sent to my shop.

message me please hehehehe :D

Here are pics of the rifle...I had him promise to put it up on CGN when he sells...sorry for the poor pics, had to rush. I think it dates to 1962??
