H&R Parder 20 Gauge Single - Sight Replacement Question

Bought a brand new H&R 20 gauge.

Sweet shooter. Second shot - front sight bead disappears. :confused: Close inspection with magnifying glass looks like the threads look like the bead sight was either cross threaded or pounded in - no threadloc. Either way, I need to replace.

My questions:

1) I will likely have to re-drill and tap. Any ideas of the drill size, and tap? the barrel thickness is about 0.084" and the hole is about .105" in diameter.
2) I would like to replace with the Truglo bead - as they look sweet, which one (Red or green) do folks prefer, particularly for trap?

Any help will be much appreciated. Don't really need anyone with their POS comments. I am really impressed with this little gun and the fact that it shoots so well and naturally for me. Shot half a box of #4's and target and it is very, very accurate - dead on - without the bead! :d
 
TruGlo males a little kit with the fiber optic rod that you can get in either red or green. It comes with several size screws. So if your threads are stripped, you can D&T one size larger and Bob's your uncle. A couple of drops of medium loctite won't hurt either. I just put one on an old Stevens 820B. They're around $25.00 IIRC.

You're welcome buddy. I notice you're in Alberta. If you can't find them in the big box stores in your area, here is a good alternative. Fly's Etc. in High River has them 4 sure. Contact Glenn or Udo at (403) 601-6120. They will ship to you and are great people to deal with.
 
As an update, I bought two green truglo's - a 3-56 and 6-48. Brought the gun to Cabelas and they actually installed it for me. Hmmm, the tru-glo's are bevelled up. Sitting on a round barrel, they look so wrong. Their threads do not extend all the way to the base of the sight, as some of the threads need to be ground as the screw shaft is a wee bit too long. The short threads means not much holding on the thin threads on the barrel (note, looks like the original sight was pounded in, judging by the mangled threads).

Found a bead in 6-48. Have a drill and tap and will be resizing a hole. Anyone need a couple of not used tru-glo's's in green? I'm sure they'd look great on a ribbed barrel.
 
Hmmm, I wonder if you got the right one sobo. The one that I acquired was installed on a round barrel, no rib and it sits perfectly. Mine came with a little 2 point black craddle which screws on. Once installed, you then slip the fiber optic rod into it. Another thing that would raise my eyebrows is letting the people at a big box store even come close to my gun with a screw driver.
