I'm looking at these rifles - in .223 - and the H&R website doesn't seem to show the twist rate. I found a website that says 1:9, is that correct? How are the triggers on these rifles? Are they adjustable? Lots of creep? How about accuracy, are they good?

The scope mounting seems a bit odd and I was thinking of a Leupold FX-II 2.5x as that could probably be mounted quite low and ahead of the trigger. Any other ideas?

We had a H&R Handi-rifle for a while that my daughter used until I bought her a left-handed bolt action.

The scope had to be mounted in super-high rings in order to clear the hammer which was OK as the rifle had a high comb. If you want to try and mount the scope on your rifle forward of the hammer you would probably require a long eye-relief pistol scope in off-set rings.

The Superlight has a 2.5" shorter LOP and the 2.5 Leupold has 4.9" of eye relief. I was hoping that would be enough.

Maybe something like a Burris Fastfire, but with a smaller dot, would work.

My .223 Superlight is a N.E.F., and I asked them after I bought it. They said the twist is 1 in 9. It probably hasn't changed under H&R.

I like mine, and I think this rifle's limiting factor for accuracy is me.

I originally mounted an old steel Weaver K4-1 with rings of unknown make and with that it cleared the hammer o.k. I replaced it with a Bushnell Trophy 1.5-6x44mm with a 30mm tube in Weaver Extra High 30mm rings and that worked, too. Now it has a modern alloy Weaver K6 (6x38mm, 1 inch tube) and that is in Weaver Extra High rings, too. As 'Boo said, the comb is high so it's o.k.

The new Superlight doesn't have a high comb (unlike other models):

That is why I would like to have enough eye relief to mount the scope low. How do you like the trigger?

The Gravel Agency is the customer service agent in Canada for H&R (and Remington and Marlin.) Ask them about a different stock. They were very helpful when I wanted an extra forestock for mine (I found a used barrel in another calibre, heavier profile, that fit my Handi-Rifle and I wanted a forestock to open up the barrel channel for it.)
