Anyone owns an H&R Tamer 20 or Survivor .410/.45LC? need some feedback on these guns.

Was wondering it is diffiocult to get a replacemant stock? I wouldn't mind 'converting' one to pistol grip.

I just bought the .410 Tamer a couple of weeks ago. I love it, shoots nicely, super small. For the $170 I paid, it's a nice little banger. One problem I do currently have is that it only likes Winchester ammo, whether it be slugs or shot. For whatever reason, it refuses to automatically eject any federal or Remington shells after being shot. I just use my truck antenna to push them out....oh how I love field engineering solutions. Maybe take this information with grain of salt however, because I have yet to clean or lubricate the gun.

It is quite loud as well, allot louder than a pump action .410.

I think your going to have a beyach of a time finding a pistol grip for it. I haven't looked because I like the size of the gun out of the box, (if you haven't seen it, it is super small), also, I would be concerned about turning your small, single shot non-restricted shot-gun into an extra small, restricted one. Keep in mind it has to be over 26" (I think) inches to be considered non-restricted. I measured mine and you could still legally cut of some of the synthetic stock to about the end of the shell holder. Not worth it in my opinion.

I haven't seen one in person, but on H&R website it says the OAL is like 34.25" so I guess I could trim another 8in off the stock and still keep it non-restricted...

If it's not too much trouble can you (or anyone else who has one) measure the length from the end of the pistol grip to the muzzle?

That's why I asked about the (factory) stock availability since the gun is so cheap it would be nice to have both...

btw I'm wondering if the survivor is a better buy, ($50 more) since it also shoots .45LC?

I measured the Overall length, and I'm getting 33".

I added the can of sauce for effect, now you have something to compare the length of the gun against.

I didn't even know they made a .410/.45 colt barreled rifle. It looks exactly like this one, I think it's only a half inch longer. Given the fact that my store here in Calgary didn't have any, I didn't have a choice, so I'm still happy with the .410 Tamer.

If your store does carry either the .20 gauge, or .410/.45 colt, I would absolutely get that one. .45 Colt ammo is cheap compared to slugs for the .410. I'm paying, on average about $1 / slug. 45 Colt would be about .50 cents each.

Hope the pictures help.

For this picture, I took the tape and measured 26", this is where I think you could legally cut it off.

Thanks for taking the pics!

1$ per shot? I don't have any shotguns right so don't know how much shotgun ammo costs... I load .44mag for about 25 cents and thought was was a lot...

is 20ga or12ga any cheaper to shoot? Or is it more because it's a bigger round?

About shooting slugs, I know Tamer (both 20ga and .410) have full choke...I thouht you can't shoot slugs with a full choke gun?

Yes, you can shoot slugs out of the .410 Tamer with a full choke. accuracy suffers a little. I can still hit within a 10" @ 100 yards with the ####ty little front sight provided (no rear sight).

20, 12 ,10 and .410 gauge are all about the same price, depending on what your after. I know that some Barnes sabot slugs for the 12 gauge are upwards of $15 / 5 or more. Regular rifled slugs are about the same price for any caliber.

With this being said, I don't know if its recommended or not to shoot slugs out of any other choke or gauge, but for sure you can shoot slugs from the Tamer.

I found this in a search...

yes you can fire slugs from other chokes. generally slugs will perform better from a more open choke. you can even shoot them from a full choke. it used to said that it would damage the barrel, but i've never really seen that from a full choke.

btw how does the stock look like from the other side? I'm guessing it's just flat... also the grip appears hollow inside is that how it is?

another Tamer question...

I spoke to H&R about shooting slugs from the Tamer 20 and was told that I can use rifled slugs only but they don't garantee any accuracy (probably due to full choke) how accurate/inaccurate is the gun with slugs?
