Now, Obtunded/ Mystic/ other people who know what they are doing, before the facepalm/ netslap (both of which I may very well deserve) here me out. Would this be a good place to start for long range shooting? I was listening to some guys (Mystic) talk about the accuracy of a single shot and I was thinking of something I might be able to teach little DB that every shot counts with. (when he/she coms along) It is also cheap, ready for optics and has a fluted bull barrel.

I owned one and couldn't get it to group well at all. Mine was an ultra varmint fluted in 22-250. I would suggest getting a stevens 200 and starting out with one of those. If you'd like to progress into F-class distance shooting you can always order a new barrel and trigger from Mysticplayer and, judging from what I've seen, that should get you set up quite nicely for long range shooting. H&R is a hit and miss kind of rifle, some shoot and some don't. I even went as far as going to greybeard outdoors (online forum) and used their break in suggestions and modifications for accurizing those rifles...... Didn't help much.

The stevens is definitely a better buy.

BTW my stevens will group sub MOA whereas my H&R would be lucky if I could group 3-4 inches @ 100 yards.

Remington XR-100,, single shot,, decent trigger,, thumbhole stock there are two for sale in the Equipment Exchange,, last check there was a 223 and a 204, $800-$1100 depending on who is selling

well,, go hard with HR :D why are you posting in the precision forum then, Bored????, I think Outbounded might have a new F-class rig for you ,, check his post

HR Varmint in Precision Rifles forum Funny Not,, that might be hunting forum,, why do think Outbounded started that thread????

that may be true but if the truth is what i want sucks, i am going to take that into consideration...and by the way, before you started talking, i was trying to take advice

FYI, Noneck180 has a fair amount of experience with the sorts of rifles you are asking about.

His advice on the XR-100 is sound. I own and have owned several. I feel they are the best factory platform out there, especially for turning into a precision rifle. Check out the 6BR thread and see how many have been turned into top rifles.

The best F-Class shooter in western Canada (CyaN1de) uses them as 6BR rigs. They have everything you want.
