Hi guys I was wondering if any one out there has expeience with H.S precision hunting rifles. Are they worth the extra cash?

Thanks

I have one from the early 80's when they were still in Prescott. The rifle shoots very well but is not light. They were the first to guarantee 1 moa when I bought it and when the stock cracked they replaced it free after 27 years. I have no experience with their new rifles but I am very pleased with mine.

Mine was a HTR in .308, I was a fool to sell it as it was the best shooting rifle I have owned to this point, and that includes a couple of full on custom builds as well as some very accurate factory stuff (OK, Savages specifically).

I had one.
I was hoping that a 3000.00 rifle would be free of defects,
but it had the same sort of problems that 400.00 rifles have.

No. Why would you go that route when you can get a custom for less and in any chambering you desire?

yes you can get a custom, 6 months from now. Expensive items are what they are. I have one in 308, beauty trigger great shooter and I have one in 204 Ruger same features.
If you like it and can afford it buy it, FS

from what i have seen they shoot no better than any of the other rifles on the market .it is a hold your head high sort of thing to own one .

Does a Mercedes offer better fit finish and materials than GM?
Personally I'm leaving space in my garage so Santa can deliver my AMG Black for xmas.
Does HS Precision offer better fit finish and material than it's mainstream competition?
IMO no,no and maybe.
And its not custom either.

The nicest things on a HS Precision rifle are the trigger the barrel and the stock.
Two out of three of those can be purchased from HS and a good trigger can be had for a hundred bucks.
Or do like John Barsness suggests ,buy three of any rifle you like ,keep the one that shoots the best and sell the other two.

Is a mercedes benz worth it, is a range rover worth it? To those that can afford such higher end items they must worth it. FS

No they arent worth it. Can I put my dead deer and quad in the back of either....ummm no. My pride in life does not come from my possesions you're mileage may very.

Cheers!!

The whole Lon Horiuchi endorsment debacle pretty much killed my interest in any HS Precision product.

Is an HS priced high? Yes
Is it out of line with any other boutique rifle? No
Look at the price of a Borden, Rifle's Inc, Basner, NULA, GAP, Surgeon...etc they are priced right in line.

A Rocky Mountain Rifle (Corlanes in Dawson creek) is also right in line price wise, and is just as much a custom as an HS. You can get about the same choices, but in Canada HS is not considered custom as you cannot just order factory direct and get the options that you specifically want, unless you are willing to go through the permitting process to export it from the US.

The question is do you feel any rifle is worth spending 3 grand on? For the average hunter no way. I don't think there are many people willing to accept that any rifle costs $3500, I know a pile of people who would never spend $1000 on a rifle and optics. There must be a market as the company seems to be surviving.

I have one.

Got it used on a trade. Would i drop the cash for one? Hell no!

who needs a 3000 dollar rifle!!??

I agreed with all of you...until now....i have shot and hunted with the rifle and its a keeper...makes my winchesters and remingtons feel like toys...originally i took it on a trade and was planning to flip it on the EE and make a few bucks...the more i used it the more i wanted to keep it....its no longer for sale BTW LOL

can you get the job done with a 300 dollar stevens? sure...and is a new truck really worth 40 thousand bucks? no!

For anyone who can afford one, they are beautiful rifles that you can trust your life with if you need to. Do you need one to fill a deer tag? of course not.

Guys get on me about using Leica Geovids to range gophers too...jealousy makes nice guys same some stupid things sometimes.

I have one it shoots great, under 1/2 MOA, I also have a Savage it shoots great, under a 1/2" MOA, but its the type of rifle you will have for the rest of your life. You won't have to wonder if it shoots well when you get it. It will guaranteed. They hold their value, and the people who build them stand behind them and if you have a problem they will take care of you guaranteed. It is a great rifle and a lot of work goe's into them to make them what they are, I know this for a fact as I have gone to the factory and seen them build them from start to finish. It not an assembley line cookie cutter deal each piece is hand fitted and checked and then rechecked to make sure it done right. You will be happy with it guaranteed. Just make sure you buy exactly what you want the first time, and if you miss a shot, its not going to be the guns fault so you won't have any excuse's. Good luck with your choice.

Depends what you're trying to do with the rifle.

Most of these guys would gag at spending 500 bucks on a custom hunting knife when you can get a chit house Buck that will do the same thing for $65.00. But the custom knife scratches an itch that some of us have for the finer things in life. Would you rather leave a loved custom knife to your favourite grandson, or a crappy mass produced Buck?

That is a question that will not be answered for you by us guys. If you love guns, and that HS scratches your itch then take your lumps and shell out the cash. If you are a practical man that just needs a hunting rifle, you won't be 'cheaping out' by going with one of the other mass produced brands.

Trust yourself, you will make the right decision. Plus, ain't nobody saying you can't buy that beauty later on in life when you have a few more pennies to spend.

Very well put, sir! I wish more people were capable of understanding this.

Most refreshing and sensible post I've read lately.
