When I look through my new Aimpoint H1 in the house and point it close to a light, I can see three very distinct diagonal red bands in the middle of the lens. Is this typical? I'm a bit disappointed with this. For the money I was expecting a crystal clear sight picture without any reflections. This is visible when it is turned on or off, and is much worse if I point it near a light.(not directly)

I would suspect that what you are seeing is a by-product of the way your red-dot system works. When pointed twords a light source, not a common scenario in practical use I would think, the light is probably being bounced around internally a little bit. That would be my WAG.
Cheers!!

It's normal. You won't see it when it's in use. You won't see it if you turn down the brightness either. I have two t1s and an h1, and its the same on all of them.

I can still see it if the sight is turned off, which got me thinking that maybe the lens coating was messed up. Good to hear that mine is not the only one like this.

In my defense for pointing it at a light, I wanted to see if the dot would wash out. I was glad to see that the dot was still visible (on a higher setting) when pointed directly at a bright light.

Is it just me or is everyone now testing their red dot sights by looking through them in the house into a light?

Don't you know, according to the internet, this is the way to test your RDS. ;)

You have no defense for what you did. You bought an Aimpoint.

And even if you wanted to see if it would wash out, you certainly didn't do it the right way.
