Hey guys and girls, I have been reloading for 40+ years now and like many of you I have tried all kinds if powders, primers, bullets with a few dozen different cal. Well these days I shoot a .243, 7-08 and a 270WSM, powders I have tried with all of these are R19,R22,H4350,H4831,IMR7828 and I have a hunting load for all of them and they consist of
90gr. accubond with 43gr. H4350 WWLR primers at 3300fps .70" accuracy with a 22.4" barrel in the .243
130gr. accubond with 63gr.H4350 WWLRM primers at 3300fps .70" accuracy with a 24.4'' barrel in the 270WSM
140gr. accubond with 49gr H4350 WWLR primers at 2900 fps .60" accuracy with a 22" barrel in the 7-08

I was wondering if anyone else has a powder that seems to be a do all with multiple rifles, I consider all my loads accurate with very good velocity with the barrel lengths I have mentioned.

Cheers
John

I have a somewhat similar idea of powder use as yourself. I've also been reloading for 0ver 45 years. I use IMR4350 for almost everything rifle. For small calibers such as .223 H4895 is my powder, everything else is 4350.

From an economical perspective, I only have to stock and purchase only 1 powder for most of my loading. It just so happens that I can load a over a dozen calibers with one powder and rarely end up with a canister of powder that I don't use.

4350 is good in medium capacity bottleneck cartridges. If i was limited to only 3 powders, then 4350 is probably one of them.

Thankfully I am not limited to one powder. While H4350 covers a wide range, so does H4895 and Varget. For my magnums I use 4831sc. Best powders for MY needs:
H4895: .223
H4350: 6.5CM
Varget: .308
H4831sc: 300WM

I must admit is is nice to have to only buy one or two powders with great results, I now have a few varieties I think I am going to sell off since I have sold my large magnums and have no use for them.

Cheers

H4831sc is the best in my 6mm,
H380 in my 22-250,
Varget for .223,
IMR3031 for the 30-30 and .303.

BUT

I have excellent loads developed for all of the above using Varget, IMR3031, H4895, and IMR4895 so I usually but whatever is available.

Plus Lil' Gun for the hornet and unique for 9mm.

Would any one have a load data h 4831 sc for a 200 gr. for the K98. Cant seem to find any.

supposedly the charge weight tables are interchangeable with H4831.

I suspect you're talking about 200 grain 8mm bullets?

IMHO, 4831 powders are to slow for the 8x57 Mauser round.

However, Nosler suggests this load which they list as near maximum

"Hodgdon H4831 SC 110.0 56.2 3.64 2590 90.8 51517 7338 1.309 ! Near Maximum !"

They suggest standard primers, 56.2 grains of H4831sc, for appx 2590fps. Pretty awesome load.

I have used this load in a k98 type factory sporter from FN in Belgium, with a 22 in bbl. The results were around 2500fps for velocity. The load proved devastating for a spike moose one morning. Bullet went through both ribs and both lungs and just kept right on going. Shot was just over 100 yards away. That says a lot about the potential of the heavy Nosler bullet and how well it stayed together. Just right IMHO.

As for 4350 being a universal powder, I will agree it's a very useful powder and a decent choice if your limited for space or cash but have several different standard cartridge designs to load. Still, there are so many good powders available today that I would hate to limit myself to only one burn rate.
