I have been using sierras reloading manual, more specifically it's ar-15 section. It does not list anything for h4895 in this section however.

I realise it is probably safe and will of course be working up with loads as always. But has anyone had much luck with this powder using 55gr bullets in your ar's or similar. Or is it not worth exploring this powder further in this instance.

I am going out later this afternoon to play with some varget and benchmark and would like to throw a few 4895's together before going, so any advice would be great.

One of the original powders for the AR-15 and 5.56 - it's a good choice.
My Hodgedon's loading manual states a starting load of 25 grains with a 55 grain SPR SP & COAL of 2.200"

I'd go with 2.250" COAL and load just about any 55 grain with 24.5 grains to start...

With that said, all of my 4895 is used up in my Garand, so I've never tried it in ARs, sorry.

Depends on your particular gun. As the other member shows, he is just under the starting load for his. Mine likes 25.6gr best with a 55gr Hornady bulk FMJ.

I have had good results with H4895 in both ARs, and M14s. The hodgdon web site has load data. It is pretty much what I used. On both rifles, the accuracy was quite good, and the temp sensitivity was minimal. Add that to the fact that h4895 is much easier to find should make it a go to powder for many.
