I think you're probably wrong. If he was rich then there would be no advertising on his shows. He is an extremely saavy businessman who parlayed his work as a guide and outfitter into a career in outdoor entertainment. Now he is an international hunting celebrity on the order of Craig Boddington (who, also, is not rich). Jim has been hunting internationally for a couple of decades at least and uses the profits from his business and funding from sponsorships to find his lifestyle. Why do you think there are so many skulls? Because they take less space and cost less money than shoulder mounts. If he was rich his trophy room would look like something out of the SCI magazines. An old school in a small community can be bought for almost no money. If you pick away at the renos (which Jim has over the last several years) it doesn't hit you in the pocketbook quite as badly.

I laugh at the people who think that they cannot attain a semblance of what some outdoor celebrities have. You may not get it all, but if you work hard, live smart and make priorities you can achieve almost anything. We have board members who have done just that, from starting out in a trade to owning a very successful electrical business or starting as a commercial pilot but making the sacrifices necessary to own a guiding business. I've yet to meet anyone on this board who was blessed with dynastic wealth but so many of us post threads and are met with "oohs" and "aahs".

Work hard, live smart, sacrifice and prioritize. Discipline equals freedom.

Regardless of what Shockey may or may not have I would like to have in the bank the equivalent of what the taxidermy fees were for that display. And no, I don't begrudge the man what he has. He apparently has worked hard and smart to obtain what he has and in my mind it is all well earned. His shows are the only ones I try not to miss. I believe he is truly awed at times by the things he sees. I don't know if his daughter is a reflection of his wife's parenting skills or of the two of them jointly. Whichever, they should be proud. His son seems similar although he is so much behind the scenes it is harder to tell. I suspect he is much like his sister.

Jim
