Every once in a while...if you do enough experimenting...spend enough time at the range...put enough bullets through enough guns...you'll have a WOW moment. That happened to us today. I had just changed the barrel tuner on my Browning Safari II semi-auto (300wm) from the break type to the straight one. This was due to the INSANE level of ear ringing blast that I got when firing it the first time with the break on it.

I brought some 180 grain Hornady flat bottom soft points over 72 grains of 7828SSC powder. I decided to start the tuning process at the recommended setting of 4. My shoulder is a little messed up right now, so our very own Icehunter121 agreed to do the shooting for me. This was the result right off the hop. That's some fine shooting Ice !!!! Can't wait for moose season !!! I make this to be a 5/16" group of 3. Yea...I'm happy with the gun :D

What distance?
I dont see any powder burns on the paper, so more than 10 feet, I would guess.;)
At 100 yards or M, that would be a definite WOW

It was 100 yards Tootall. I'm still amazed. I couldn't have shot that myself...not with my shakes and coffee addiction :D Kudo's to Icehunter121 for sure. I guess there won't be any blaming my gun for missed shots this year. LOL !!!

And I just realized that I started this in the hunting section, not the hunting arms section. Ooops.

That was shot in a gusty 25 k crosswind also. It was funny after I fired the 3 shots i said all i can see is what looks like a ragged hole. But with 9x it was hard to tell. But the truth was on the paper and there was 4 witnesses to it:D

I was having a great day. My 204 went in at something like .475 and .492 for 3 shots with 2 different loads and ol Blacksmith dude.....guess what the .416 rigby went in at......... .558 for 3 shots:D I could post a pic of it if any one wants to see it,with blacks permission of course so I dont hijack his thread..

I think it would be worth seeing.(since I'll never see one on my target!!)

K I will start a new thread but it will be in the hunting or sporting arms forum. It will be titled Great day at the range...gimme a hour or so..actually I will title it....my .416 varmint rifle...

Always nice to see a ragged hole group.

Not to be critical but when a nice tight group like that comes up, I want to shoot two or three or four more just like it. Then with that kind of consistency one can really say WOW!!!

A rifle/scope/cartridge combo that will average 1 inch groups will sometimes turn in a 5/16" group.

You are so full of :bsFlag:.................................:HR:!!! LOL !!

Do you remember this ???

"I think there's 60 in there (referring to my ammo box) so full yer boots."

After we checked the target and came back to the line to show it off ......the gun sat there untouched for 1/2 an hour.

I did shoot it after he did, but I was wearing my Past recoil pad....I had a limbsaver slip on recoil pad on the stock....I was flinching so bad, anticipating the recoil on my sore shoulder.....basically doing everything wrong that I possibly could. The gun still shot a 1" group. Notice I said "the gun shot"...because lord knows I didn't do much to help it out. :D

Very gratifying when everything comes together. As some have commented, It's good to shoot several groups to determine how consistent a load/rifle will prove to be.
I have taken a rifle to the range, shot a zinger group right off the bat, and been all excited about it. Then loaded a bunch more with that load, only to find I could not duplicate the one-time results.
However, if you have a factory hunting rifle that consistently shoots moa or better, you have an exceptional one, and should hang on to it.
Custom rifles with good aftermarket barrels, put together properly will often shoot sub-moa all day long.
Of course, the "driver" is an important factor, as well.) Regards, Eagleye

Nice shooting. I know just what you mean. Heres a pic of my WOW moment. 300 WinMag @100yds with 15-20kmh crosswind. Factory ammo in a Mossberg 4X4.

Not likely to repeat that often.
