I had the VLP .223 out again yesterday. I've got it dialled in pretty good out to 600m. The little fixed 10X 3200 s a little light in magnification at that and beyond so I've been chatting with Jerry about a Sightron, also about scope tracking as my 600m group was 6" right of the bull (no wind). The 600m 3 shot group was 4.50" but was just off the paper so I didn't get a pic. The rest are below. So far it's maintaining .75 MOA out to 600m.

With each picture, there are 4 coding options. Click on the "direct link" line and copy that destination.

In your post body, click on the IMG icon which is the square with a mountain/moon (2nd from right). A box will come up with the Http highlighted, paste over that and click ok.

The image should now pop up in the post body.

Nice to see a dedicated shooter belly shooting in the snow - you are a braver soul then me :)

A few things I would consider when looking at your group due to the amount of vertical stringing.

1 - can I see the target clear enough to keep POA within 1/2"?
2 - am I getting any bounce from the bipod? Inconsistent follow through will definitely cause vertical
3 - what type of primer? CCI 450 is my choice when it gets cold
4 - tune the load for the colder temps. Even extreme powder needs to be tweaked when cold or hot. 0.1 to 0.2gr can make a huge difference in vertical. Try raising or lowering the load a tenth or two and see what you get.

Looks very promising and if you can dial out the vertical, that rig may just stun you with what it can do.

Enjoy...

Sounds good Jerry. I need to load some more ammo tomorrow, I'll tweak it up .1 or .2 and see what happens. Also with that fixed 10X I was covering most of the target with the reticle at 500m. The red square on the target is just shy of 4" (scanned and printed my own)

Make the target just slightly bigger then the reticle so you can see the shadow of it when the reticle is aligned properly. Another colour helps too.

Mag doesn't matter as long as the target is sized to suit.

I am blown away each time I see what TR shooters can do with open sights but the target is sized to their sights (or the other way).

Definitely, tweak your load. If the bedding is correct and load tuning correct, that rifle should shoot 1/4 min vertical. The group size may be closer to 1/2 min horizontally but the bullets will land in an ellipse (football on its side).

If the groups expand rapidly, then go the other way 1 or 2 tenths.

Let us know how you make out.

here you go... and well done

Jerry I'm hoping that one Tacpro should be here soon. When did you mail it out?
If Tacpro doesn't come out with the strap on soon I'll have to just drill that laminate stock and put the regular one on!

Nice shooting, that gun a scope looks small in your hands, looks like a rimfire in the first pic. Thats some nice shooting. -19 and laying in the snow, some people just wouldn't get it eh? Are you at a range or?

Cheers

Your gun is prettier than you sir! :D

Lying prone, -19, 10x scope and shooting to 600m, I don't know how many times you been out with that setup but your groups look pretty good to me.

fatboyz nice shooting. :) I'll echo other people commenting about the cold. I wish I could motivate myself to shoot in -5 degC weather from my range's enclosed firing line!

I've been shooting that Savage with the 10X for almost a year. I have about 500 rounds through it (bougght it off the EE from another CGN'er that wanted a detachable mag)
I'm going to tweak the load a bit for the cold and then take it out a bit farther. The 10X will do until tax return time, and then a Sightron will be leaving Mystics place!
I live in the mountains in Central Alberta and that spot is a little adhoc range some fellas put together. There's metal gongs out to 1200 yds. There are no marks in the 1200 yet, but the 8 and 1000 are marked up. I have had my Sendaro out to 800 there with good results. Our range in Rocky Mtn House is getting a face lift right now , and only goes to 550m. I can head west from home 30min with a lunch and have some nice places to shoot easilly out to 1600 m (I have to use a GPS to measure that far as my leupold RX 750 doesn't cut it past 550). For anyone that really hasn't shot distance it takes longer than you think to dial things in! I don't mean skill level either I'm talking walking time!!! You fire 3 shots from a 223 at a paper target at 600m, then it's a 1.2 K walk there and back before you make adjustments. It takes a while just to get 20 rnds off. That area is very wet in the summer, but when frozen I use an ATV to run down range. We had a nice fire going and some fresh deer smokies from this years hunt so that helps take the edge off the cold.
