I don't normally post or brag of my hunting adventure(well, aside from the bigfoot expeditions. ;) )

Got this little fellow on Saturday evening.

Nice size and wonderful coat. Not often they look like this around here.

He is now in the hands of a gifted taxidermist who will likely turn him into a full body mount due to the quality of animal, I am not keeping the animal , he will keep for himself.I just didn't want it going to waste.

Not at all, he knew I was there but long as those legs are he wasn't fast enough. ;)

It is a boy dog, and it won't be mounted for me, the fellow doing it will keep it for himself.

Nice looking yodel dog!
Was a little to interested in field mice to take notice of the guy holding the smoke pole?
Thanks for sharing,
Rob

Nice dog, and an ever better photo! No blood, holes, etc...

If you don't mind, what caliber/rifle did you use? Looks from the pic like there is no damage to the pelt, at least on the side showing.

Didn't really want to reveal that delicate information.

I was not using my coyote rig as I was out for white tail.

But it is kind of close to a varmint rig.

Had my BLR in 7mm WSM, optics are a fixed Leupold 6 , in gloss. :).

Using 150gr Swift Scirocco II with W760 propellant.

Funny thing is this rifle has taken more dogs than deer.

Since it is gun nutz, here is the boring tool used for all to see.

Was a running away shot kind of quartering , waited until he turned a bit and was perfectly in line, put the cross hair on back of his head , pulled trigger on his down gallop, bullet entered spine about 6" in from the base of tail and above tail exited halfway up sternum. Small hole in, small hole out.

Don't see an issue using these bullets to save a pelt.

Funny thing is, this thing shoots to beat all hell.

I went to this projectile for my main use bullet. I used SST's for a few year and found them way to fragile.Nothing to do with the cartridge IMO, always proper bullet selection for desired end result.

They hold together great , expand just enough and have great BC for a hunting bullet , which translates into less pelt damage if that is your goal.

Not sure why more people don't use them to be honest.

If you look close you can see a bit of the area on the back at the rear of the dog(entrance) and a slight brown area in the sternum fur where it exited.

Amazing that a short mag cartridge didn't cause any pelt damage...

We have such a coyote issue , just can't keep em at bay, between the climate and coyotes the deer have taken a major hit, not to mention the poaching.

Coyotes, poachers and environment Canada don't consider game conservation high on the list of priorities. :)

Looks good the trappers around here are all gearing up so the fur must be pretty good I bet.
