HAHA THIS certainly wasnt a Norinco! (via m14forum)

Every product that is manufactured will have a certain percentage of failures that slip past QA. What distinguishes brand x from brand y is the amount. In the case of Norinco's, how many threads are posted demonstrating failures or problems. Quite a few. How many threads do you here of SA rifles having a failure? Not very many. Unfortunitly you won the lottery - in a bad way. I believe SA has a good warrenty of their rifles and hopefully they will still be able to help remedy the defect. I think all in all it's safe to say the SA makes a better quality rifle than the Norinco but sometimes failures aren't detected by QA and a defective rifle ship regardless.

Furthermore I would also like to add that even the most premium M14 receivers are subject to flaws. For those of you that think LRB is the cats ass, do some research and there are threads showing LRB receivers that are not within USGI spec. Again, not saying LRB is crap, but everybody ships a defective product that makes it through QA. It's only a question of how much. In the end you get what you pay for.

Just tossing this out there but some people are reluctant to admit to failures in their masterpiece of American Engineering. I mean......its American right, its gotta be better than that Chinese crap right and it cost 5 times more so its gotta be better ...........right ?

I think this comment ^^ has some merit
We see very few M1A's at clinics as well and maybe M1A owners either feel they are above attending or that they aren't welcome.... :(
Last summer 2 M1A's showed up at our surrey clinic. One was new unfired, both "Standards". BOTH were unsafe rifles much to the horror of their owners. One had a recall bolt, the other had full bolt roller contact with receiver when closed.. The one guy packed up and left. It could not have been comfortable bringing the M1A's to a "norc" party and being informed that the rifle isn't safe.

If we could all be gentlemen about it, it would be nice to see a thread where guys can post major issues with their rifles, regardless of brand.

Truth. If american meant flawless quality, it would be unthinkable to buy anything else. What it actually means is "assembled by a unionized alcoholic, that feels he deserves a bigger house than you.". That may, or may not, include better quality components, and/or quality control. Either way, you will pay more.

This is probably one of the better generalizations I've heard regarding the manufacturing situation in the US. Applies to many things here too.

Well said Thomas!, again!

A post or two about extractors would be nice if people want to really be helpful.

I agree , as gun owners we should all be looking at >> all of the issues , Good and Bad , regardless of brands to help us be more knowledgeable and better informed on the fire arms we own and shoot or intend to buy .

Hello , a bit off topic but I have a couple of M305 I need to sight in , anyone in SW Ontario , Lambton County have a small place to shoot on their property , I'll bring guns and bullets for every one to shoot .
Please PM me .
Thanks !!

If you're going to spend big money on an M1A style rifle, go all the way - get an LRB, other than that, get a Norc. The only exception would be if you can find an old Springfield, I know of at least one "Devine" Springer in Canada, but the owner isn't selling (I tried).

im with you here... i dont have the money for an LRB so i go norc.. would rather have a gun assembled by someone happy to just have a job, rather than as someone so eloquently put it: "a unionized alcoholic who thinks he deserves a bigger house than you"

i support my people, so i buy chinese...and russian, and czech, and american, and if can i ever find one i'll buy canadian

When I read these M-14 threads loaded with anti-Norc and anti-LRB/SA/SEI comments, I always wonder about the following: if a gun store in Canada were to offer a no-cost trade-in deal where you can exchange your Norc/Poly for your choice of an LRB or SAI or SEI M1A/M-14, FREE, would anyone take them up on their offer?

...yeah, that's what I thought too.
