The guiding concession was bought out by the Haida years ago to slow down the bear hunt. Now the bear hunt has been totally closed and the deer hunting part of the license is not in use so there are no legal guiding services that are active on the islands at the moment. You would need a hunter host to bag a few deer now.
To keep the bear licence active and in their posession they have to take bear under that license so are alloting 4 bear/ year to be taken and I belive they are going for draw only now. I camped over there and got my 5 deer this year but the place is crawling with bears now. Salal berry piles of crap every 40 yds on some of the backroads. I had to chase one away from my camp the first night. Thankfully met someone over there whose place I could hang my deer at their garage or the meat pole would have been raided in short order. Also the bears are accustomed to come a running at gunshots to get the gut bags so be careful as locals have had a few close calls with some getting aggressive.
