we are gathered here this late afternoon with shot glasses in hand and smile'n like ole smile'n Jack to thank the Lord for the fine fresh meat that we received at near days end on the second last day of hunting for 2014. Oldest son got a nice (grain fed) buck, Savage lite weight Hunter 111 260, head shot, haven't got all the details as of yet, he was in another group than I. It looked like a skunked season for us, but persistence paid off, yes it shirley did! (Lady Luck's name is Shirley, I think;)) Most of our crowd was ready to throw in the towel many days ago! Anyway, it will be hung and skinned shortly and cooled down with a cold water rinse. We're gonna be whoppen it up big time tonight! As tradition has it, I'm gonna slice off some thin slices for quick fry in the cast iron pan for tummy yummies from soon until bedtime. Butter and salt & pepper. Man, it's my favorite way with fresh venison, it has been since I was a boy back on the farm in SK.
Brian, if you are listening, it will hang for about 18 hrs in the attached garage, it's cool, but not super cold, it will not freeze, I don't think we'll need an electric heater, but will keep a close eye on it. Right after breakfast tomorrow morning, the butchering begins. There will be 4 out of 5 tags left unused, were done, not going to be greedy. We are very thankful for what we got. Good Luck to the rest of you hunters. My cupith is empty, gotta head back to the Bar. :d
