so i want to buy an AR type pistol in 9mm so i can use it on my local indoor range.
what would you guys do. buy a 9mm AR rifle lower and use it on a 9mm AR pistol upper? or would you buy a complete 9mm AR pistol and put a stock on it?
functionality question - would a AR pistol upper even work with a AR rifle lower? are the buffer tubes the same length? i would think the complete firearm of pistol upper and rifle lower might not work because of the differences in barrel length and the amount of pressure that can be collected in such a short barrel as opposed to a longer one. would the firearm be able to cycle properly?
IF anyone knows whether or not the buffer tube lengths are the same in both the rifle and pistol uppers, could you tell me? and if so,... would the better and more guaranteed choice be to install a stock on to the complete pistol? i've never installed a stock on an AR before so i don't know if they can just be installed onto these pistols or how they even install on the rifles.

your help would be appreciated.

I ask the question to Questar, as to wheter we could switch a rifle or carbine stock on their new RRA LAR15 pistols... and basically, they said yes.

Here's a copy of the discussion:
Q: can the special buffer tube be replaced by a standard carbine tube with a
retractable stock ?

R: "Yes, the pistol extension tube can be switched to a regular rifle stock (A2
or CAR/Tactical). You do have to make sure you follow the guidelines for
parts changes (see the website for a list of components that must be changed for 9mm operation... buffer, spacer, etc. depending on stock used)."

So, my advice to you would be to buy one of those RRA 9mm AR pistols (7" or 10" barrel) from Questar and put on an M4 type collapsible stock.

cool... as long as i know it'll work.
i've been told these are not gas blow back. whether they are or not,... would you shoot lead only ammo through them? for gas operated i've heard you shouldn't use full lead due to clogs in the gas tube.

so using a rifle lower on pistol upper,... would that make it a rifle with cap of 5 rds?
and will using the full pistol and replacing the buffer with an added stock still maintain it's status as pistol? i know we can add stocks on glocks and high powers... but these are add ons....not replacement parts... will it stay as 10rd mags?

i'll go check the list of required conversion parts as well.

I would not shoot lead projectiles through any gas operated firearm. And it is the MAG that denotes the capacity, not the gun. If your AR takes pistol mags, then it is 10 rounds...if it takes UZI mags, then it is 5 rounds. Makes alot of sense...NOT!:p
