Curses! I'm not sure about NavyShooter's identity, but now my cover's blown!
Hey guys, I'm finally back, new computer build had a bad cpu fan that kept causing reboots, new doesnt mean working... anyway, my comuter runs for more than 5 minutes now and my BP seems to be back down based on the clean language I'm now using.

BIG thanks to Hungry and NavyShooter for making the clinic happen.
I won't go into detail, but the clinic is fun, interesting and you leave it with a lot of confidence in the M14 and in your knowledge of how to use and maintain it. Eevery M14 sold in Canada should have $50 tacked on the price and include a ticket to Hungry's clinic, maybe we can talk to the CFC about that
Filthy and I were lucky enough to have time to talk with Hungry and NavyShooter that evening, two very accomplished guys with great stories to tell, what a riot...
As for the pics of the dutchess, gallen, keep them because just knowing that she already thinks I'm a creep and hates me would ruin any enjoyment of leering at them
It was great to meet all the cats there, pretty cool to spend a day with other people with taste as good as mine...

Well I finally got my M14 to the range. Considering I took delivery back in January of 2008, I'm more than just a slightly bit embarrassed. This is the rifle I ran through the M14 clinic here in Halifax (that's me in the green shirt wearing the blue barrier gloves in the photo above).
Considering it is the first time I've fired a 7.62 (.308 Win) rifle over iron sights since the CF retired the FN C1, I'm more than pleased both with the rifle and my abilities with it. I was firing it from a table supported by an sand bag and I got hunting quality groups from the first mag. The best mag/group I turned in was about an inch and a half at about 25 yards (we were using the short rifle range at our club). Not stellar shooting but I wasn't slung in nor was I prone. Also the targets I was using were light grey and hard to see with these old infanteer eyes.
More fun than punching paper was knocking a couple of old juice jugs around the 50 yard backstop from the standing unsupported position. I even picked off one bottle that I had knocked down to the bottom of the berm where it was peaking out from behind a railway tie. The second round tossed the bottle up to the very top of the berm where I left it. Very satisfying.
The shot of the day was when I sent an old large vitamin bottle (about 4 inches high by about 2 inches wide) into orbit at 50 yards, again from the standing unsupported position and iron sights. I've never used a centerfire rifle for plinking before but the M14 was a blast. I'd be worried if I was a deer within 100 yards.
I had toyed with the idea of scoping this baby but since I really like using the stripper clip feed (damn mag capacity limits), I might have to invest in a NM rear sight or NM rear peep instead.
The rifle operated flawlessly. It tossed the fired brass forward in the 1 to 2 o'clock direction, almost straight ahead. Brass wasn't too beat up either.
It's not an FN but it is a beautiful rifle in its own right. Makes me wish I hunted deer because this would be a great rifle for the woods. A little heavy but that's why the recoil was downright pleasant. I put about 100 rounds downrange and I could have easily put another 100 or 200 more with no discomfort. I'll have to get it back to the range with some different loadings to see if I can tighten those groups up a bit. This rifle is definitely a keeper.

Good shooting Sir.I was once a FN C1A1 kinda guy as well.But not anymore.Its now M14s all the way for a battle rifle (OK a hunting rifle).I even biult a pistol grip stock for it so I could see if it would bring back the FN days,No way,too front heavy with a collapsible stock. I will be sticking with the USGI fiberglas stock for these machines. Tried the poly M14s stock today and found it too slippery for me.Later. Oh and Hungry is the M14 God.

1 It is more fun than I imagined (and I have a big imagination).
2 Every rifle should come with a clip feed guide. Mind you every rifle should come with legal 50 round magazines too.
3 Always check to make sure your flash eliminator is tight and secure before shooting. Considering I didn't figure this one out until I was cleaning the rifle at home the next day, I shot pretty darn good.
4 I should get a reasonable sling for this baby.
5 Don't leave it to the last minute to try to find your magazines. Store them in an obvious location.
