Looking for someone willing to take a newbie out coyote hunting.

I have my H1/PAL/outdoors experience, just no first hand hunting experience. Have done a bunch of research (including finding out my only non restricted centerfire rifle is "too good" in southern ontario because of WW1) on both the laws and coyote hunting.

Got into shooting for the practical/ipsc/etc aspects, and haven't really met anyone into hunting and would like to give predator hunting a try.

Since this feels like a resume, can provide references :D or take a look through my post history.

Willing to travel (within reason), pay for expenses, say thanks with a case of 24, etc.
 
Last person I brought to my farm for a hunt on here thought because I brought him once means he could come anytime he wanted to after that. Caught him three weeks later with another guy on my farm.

He left with a black eye and a kicked in door pannel. I was pissed!

One bad apple ruined it for me bud.

There are plently of other good guys on here who may help you. There are other Ontario Hunting Forums kicking around the net where alot of guys are from Hamiltom.

That sucks, some people just don't know what is proper and what isn't.

Do you have any links to these forums? I tried looking on the OFAH site but didn't stumble across any forums from there.
 
Hey I'm in the same boat except in the GTA. Willing to travel as well, gun knowledge, shooting exp, just no hands on predator hunting. infact no Ontario hunting exp! only in NFLD. New to Ontario somewhat so I have no clue where I can go here.

I hope your just trying to look cool on the internet. Who beats someone up and kicks in their door panel because someone came back to hunt their land...

You could act like an adult and tell him it was a one time thing and he was not welcome back.

So i'm assuming you never told him that it was a one time hunt and that if he wanted to return he should talk to you..?

That is the primery reason we have .275 caliber rule to prevent people shooting military ammo on hunting

How exactly is > .275 only military ammo? Ever heard of .375 H&H? Or hundreds of other types of large hunting calibers?

I would gladly use my .308/7.62x51 "Military" rifle with proper ammo on coyote's if the laws allowed me to here in Southern Ontario.

The law is idiotic. Period. I can shoot .22CB which is totally inhumane, but can't shoot a 30-30.

Let alone the fact that I can shoot a .270 which generates 4000J of energy but not a .30 Carbine which generates 1200J.

The law was put in place to keep hunting expensive, as back then .30cal was cheap and plentiful, and the only real centerfire calibers under .275 were expensive custom hunting rounds.

The .275 rule doesn't stop you from using "miltary" ammo either? .223 Rem / 5.56 anyone? 6.8SPC? etc.

i call BS. well, at least i hope it's a bs story as it's rather unacceptable for anyone to assault someone over trespassing in the bush.
 
I kinda like some aspects of the caliber restriction. I don't want some idiot sneaking onto my farm and letting loose with a 338wm at a coyote crossing between him and my house. Yes it has its downsides. Basically no old school lever guns for coyotes. Some guns are just to big and reach to far to be fired in and around built up areas. Not everyone has common sense.

You could loose your firearms liscence and guns by acting like that.

I know a guy that was in tim hortons one time and confronted a guy that fooled around with his ex wife ,called him names and mad a fool of him in front of people.
The very next day the rcmp were knocking on his door asking questions ,a few hours latter the cfo called and wanted a meeting with him.
He almost lost his guns.
 
Id just go buy a bow for hunting anything in southern ontario. Ive killed more coyotes with my bow this year than with my guns. People down south would probably more likely to let you hunt their property if you where shooting a max of 50 yds. way more fun 2! Go buy urself a PRIMOS truth bout calling coyotes pack. teaches you everything you need to know and comes with good calls. wish id have done it when i lived in niagara. A bow can replace the need to buy all kinds of guns for different game. dont get me wrong, i own a bunch of guns...... just dont seem to wanna shootem as much anymore!
 
Getting someone to take you out hunting is getting harder & harder these days. I feel lucky that I have access to several family properties & lots of crown land. Perhaps you could join a hunting/shooting club & get to know some of the members. Someone will take you out hunting if you are a nice person; I guarantee it! :D

I guess that might be my only option, I am not sure I am going to like it, so that's why I put out this feeler to try it out before diving feet first or just grabbing a rifle and heading out into the woods so to speak.
 
If you get permission and then ask someone to hunt your spot you'll have a PM box full o people with callers and experience. drive aroudn and ask every farmer you see. Should have at least one yote'
