My son's S&W 1911 pro series 9mm; the slide was removed to have it fitted for a burris fast fire mount. It was to go to the local smith for milling & fitting. He asked me if the frame needed to be trigger locked......since he doesn't have a safe, I said, unfortunately yes. As he was installing the trigger lock, it tripped the trigger, & the hammer fell forward. Its forward & won't move rearward. What's happened & how do we correct this? He was intending to take the slide only to the smith.......are we destined to take the pistol in, or is there an easy fix?
thanks.....any help appreciated.

Maybe the hammer strut jumped off the mainspring plunger and got wedged?

Try popping the mainspring housing pin out and sliding the housing down to see if that frees the hammer.

Or the mainspring plunger is wedged in the housing?
