hammer extension causing light strikes

I recently picked up a used bl 22 and have been fixing it up. Yesterday I put a hammer extension on it and was having 4 or 5 out 10 rounds not firing on the first try. If I recock it and try the same shell again it will go off. After taking the extension off no problems. I know its back on hammer far enough that the extension is not hitting anything so all I can figure is just the added weight is not letting it hit hard enough. Does this make sense? Has anyone else ever had this issue.

could it be hitting the scope and causing light strikes? Adding weight to the rear of the hammer would cause more inertia no?

I actually don't have a scope on it yet so I was shooting with the irons. And as for adding weight I thought it would strike harder. I had one round that I tried 4 times and even spun it so the pin hit the other side of the rim and still nothing. I took the extension off and it fired first try. I honestly can't make any sense out of it.

You're suppose to take yer thumb off the hammer extension when you fire.........?.............

Boy, that's an odd perdictamint.
A little extra weight slowing it down.

Photos?

Cocked and not.

Sorry no photos, cameras broke. It cocks just fine. I even tried holding the hammer while holding the trigger and releasing the hammer with my thumb and still click. The only thing I thought of is mabye the hammer spring just isn't what she used to be and the extra couple ounces is slowing it? Don't know if that makes sense or not but I can't think of anything else.

Good chance it is hitting something on the way down.
Can you change position of the extension and try again?
Or maybe just look for a little mark where it hits?

I actually tried moving it a little at a time from the back of hammer right to the front and no difference. There is no marks anywhere where it could be hitting either. They would show up real good if there was one cause I just finished rebluing.

It's quite common for them to slow the hammer down enough for light strikes. Is it an aluminium or steel one? The steel ones can cause light strikes for sure, I had one on a BLR that caused the exact same problem. Get a new hammer spring and an aluminium extension and all should be good.

The extension is aluminum, but I will defiantly look into a new spring. Thanks for all the suggestions guys, really appreciate the help.

When my gun was doing this ,i removed the hammer and polished the sides of its shank where the bolt goes through hammer and then reassembled the gun and the problem was solved.
