Hammer Forging Bbls.

I was not sure where to post this, so I figured the machineists here might know. After the forging, how is a bbl taken off the mandrel? Does the barrel rebound off the mandrel and allow it to be taken off, or is it "unscrewed"?

The mandrel is withdrawn by reversing the hydraulics. THe manufacturer has a video floating around. I'll see if I can find it.

It unscrews...

and from that picture of a hammer forging machine you can see why only very large companies use that method. Very costly to set up and only practical for large quantities..
 
Search around on internet flash vids hosters....search for HK(Heckler und Koch), or as above Steyr and/or Glock...

All are common polygonal hammer forge barrel makers.
