Hey folks,

Ive got the itch to put another wheel gun in my safe. Missing the 686 that i sold years ago, and have a craving for a 44 in a 629.

Years ago i shot IPSC, and i know lots of guys take their pistols to the u.s. for competitions, but can you take your restricteds to the U.S. to hunt with?

Is it a problem with Canadian laws? Do states that allow hand gun hunts allow out of state residence to use hand guns?

Just something ive always thought would be such a blast. Literally.

Cheers!

You need the federal gun import permit (form 6 from BATF), after that every states own laws take over.

I once guided a retired C.O. from Salmon, Idaho. He knew well, and hunted, with the most famous handgun hunter of all...Elmer Keith. He told me that all a foreigner (me) needed to handgun hunt whitetails in Idaho was a deer license and a private landowners permission to hunt. To hunt any of the other ungulates (mule deer, Elk, moose) or hunt on state land (what we call crown), I would require a hired outfitter/guide. That was 30 yrs ago so things may have changed since.

He offered to take me handgun hunting if I wanted and like a fool I never made the effort (raising kids at the time). One of the definite do-overs I would do differently.... Was very disappointed when the hunt timed-out, could have listened to his experiences and "Keith" stories for days more. One of his statements has stuck with me, his words; "Elmer was the most opinionated man I ever knew and being a C.O. for 30 yrs, I've spoke to a lot of people with an opinion".
