Hand gun Hunting

Yup im in , I have a 44 mag, ruger Black hawk hunter with scope, ready to go if it ever happens, also antique handgun in 44 russian, Can legaly carry because it is antique, but cannot hunt with it in alberta, regs say no handguns.

Who else would like to hunt with a hand gun here. :D

i would start hunting if i could use a handgun. i think it would give the animals a better chance as well as i would have to be a lot closer to hit them than i would with a long gun.

For small game, hells yeah.

Why just small game? .. are you saying that is all you would be interested in or that's all we "should be allowed" to hunt? My 500 S&W isn't going to leave much in the way of meat if I use it for Grouse or rabbits. It will dispatch a Moose or any big animal in Canada for that matter.

Without a doubt handgun hunting should be legal, but whether or not I would participate is another matter. I can already carry a handgun under the conditions of my ATC, but to me the rifle is the primary hunting arm. Of course there are handguns and there are handguns. My idea of a handgun is a pistol or revolver that has a 4"-6" barrel and is light enough not to be noticed when carried in a belt holster. I have little interest in Contenders or bolt action pistols chambered for rifle cartridges, but again, that's just me and I think the law should reflect the reality that a suitable handgun is a practical hunting arm for a wide variety of game.

I'm curious why?

X2. Be it an archery set up, handgun, shotgun or rifle, the only thing I see that would make it "not feel right" for me is the tool of choice one happens to have in a given situation and the range being beyond what you're comfortable with. That to me though that becomes a matter of ethics to take or not take the shot reguardless of the tool and or distance.

I have made inquiries on a Moose hunt in Alaska and my "choice" of tools is the 8 3/8" 500 S&W. Being retired and the cost considerations are a bit of a hurdle but if I get the 'opportunity' to do my "649 happy dance", I'm gone tomorrow.

So, because handgun hunting "doesn't feel right" to you, does that mean you should stop others from doing it? Remember, other people think that all hunting "doesn't feel right" to them.
