Hand gun ownership Ontario

You can thank Cyclone a member here for not needing a Gun Club membership here in Ont. He took the CFO to court on his own dime and kicked ass !

Interested to hear the story on that. How long ago?

I’ve never needed to be club member in Ontario and I bought my first restricted in 2004. They still ask me every time if I belong to a range though.

Have your own range? Too personal to ask maybe.

No. I have belonged to ranges off and on over the years. Just don’t seem to get out much with these days with the kids and whatnot.

I suppose I’m more collector these days than shooter. I should make an effort to get out and shoot more.

Ok I know some will disagree with me but I just moved to New Brunswick. I was contacted by the CFO and I either need a range membership OR proof that I have been participating in gun competitions. So range membership is not required in NB. But is probably the easiest

Hey guys, new guy here. I just took my safety courses so I'm still at the beginning of my wait.. I had the same questions about needing a membership at a club to acquire restricted but was informed by my course instructor to indicate myself as a "collector" to get the ball rolling. Eventually I will find and get hooked up at a club range. I'm in the KW Ontario area, so if anyone knows of a good local club that's accepting members please let me know. From my armchair internet search, it looks tougher to find a local 1000 yard rifle range.

I plan on getting a more entry level rifle and handgun, but still doing my homework on what I should get. I have this draw towards older models with history as well, so we'll see what i end up with.

Happy to have found this forum, and looking forward to learning lots here and maybe even meeting some of you folks, even virtually.

Don’t do that, as others have said you don’t need to have a range membership in Ontario to buy and possess restricted firearms.
