A question for you seasoned hand gun and pistol shooters. When shooting a handgun that has fixed sights (or even adjustable ones that haven't really been adjusted), is it normal that in order to hit the center of a targer you have to aim fairly off center ?

I find with my P22, I have to aim low and to the right. With my Norinco, I have to aim up and to the right. For my sight picture, in focus is my front sight and target. Is this normal for non-adjustable / un-adjusted sights ?

Both guns shooting to the right - that maybe attributed to your grip or the direction you pull the trigger. It is normal for pistol to shoot a few inches off in new hands. Do not forget your sight picture maybe slightly different as well and on such short sight distance it gives huge offset. Also check your guns. For P22 - check what number is on front pin, you may have to replace that. Also check that your muzzle weight (for 6" barreld model) sits upright and locking pin is tight. Also check barrel clamp screw is tight and nut at the muzzle that holds the whole thing together is also tight. After all that you can always adjust windage on P22. Try switching ammo as well.

Not normal no. The sights or you need to be calibrated. If you are shooting a 10 round group into 4 inches or less from 25 yards and point of aim and impact ar off then the sights need to be calibrated. If the grouping is greater than that then you might need to be calibrated:D

its you.. not the gun.
its your grip and or your trigger pull/control.
front sight should be clear in your view and the target should be a little fuzzy.
try shooting with one eye.. then two.

start from being close to the target, then as you get better, move farther away.
practice, and you'll be straight in no time.

first, make sure you are getting a good group.
aim at the target (forget about aiming off) and shoot until you get a good, tight, consistent group (which will probably not be centered on the black)
then mess with the sights.

Yes I've bench rested and shot very close groups, but again, if I'm aiming dead center then the groups are off-center. So yes, of course there's the human factor (my crap newbie aim :D), but yes, based your responses I think I'm correct in my assumption my sights also need to be adjusted. Unfortunately on the Norinco, they're fixed and unadjustable :(

Also, have someone else try your pistols, to see where they are hitting.

We all tend to look through the sights SLIGHTLY differently, but you should be able to see consistent problems from one shooter to another if the sights are to blame.

I too, I'm afraid, am more suspicious of something you are doing, rather than your sights being off. Don't worry: we've all been there at one time or another!

I don't know how moving closer will adjust your sight picture or otherwise fix anything. If you can hit anywhere on paper than there is absolutely no need to move closer.
